When simulation user want to simulate a distillation column, sometime they only have input
stream information but they dont know how many number of distillation column stages to
simulate. User can guess how much number of stages in distillation, but there is a step user
can use to find initial number of stages. This tutorial objective is to design simple distillation
from beginning.

A. Find Pressure of Column

Suppose user has feed information below, Fluid Package : Peng Robinson

Temperature is at bubble point. Thermodynamic: Peng Robinson

User introduce feed to Flash Drum and they will have simulation like below

Fig 2. Example of Flash Drum simulation.

Distillation : Basic (PRO/II)

By using this specification:

And the result:

Distillation : Basic (PRO/II)

B. Shortcut Distillation
After user got pressure from previous simulation, that Pressure information is used to
shortcut distillation simulation by using same feed

Fig.3 Shortcut distillation

By using below specification

Distillation : Basic (PRO/II)

After simulation is converged, user can right-click Column and choose View Result.

User will get number tray information. In this case, Number of trays = 73.61, in the
simulation, its equal with 74 trays without condenser and reboiler. In Pro/II, 74 trays
its mean 76 including condenser and reboiler. User can reduce number of trays by 74
or below, but it will cause convergence problem or it will become unconverged.

C. Rigorous Distillation
On the Palette, choose Distillation Column,
complete all form using same specification like shortcut column
