Stephens Eagle Leadership Project

Stephen's project was to recreate Gemma Caramante's Annual Easter
Egg Hunt. For "Aunt" Gemma, her hunt was a way to share the unending
love she had for her family, friends, associates, neighbors....You get the
picture. Her love and dedication to youth was limitless. She invited
everyone, from every walk of life, nationality and religion. It was as if she
knew the history behind the use of eggs and the hunt.
In 2013 "Aunt" Gemma held her 45th Easter Egg Hunt on the grounds of
her Livingston home, as was the Easter morning tradition. Just a few
short months after she had celebrated her 90th birthday which was New
Year's Day. At this point, she had held these hunts for half her lifetime.
Little did anyone know, it would be her last. One year later, shortly after
her 91st birthday, she passed due to complications of surgery. This hunt
was her greatest legacy. The year she passed, a great void was left not
only by her passing and the loss of a vibrant community minded
individual, but for many the "tradition" no longer occurring Easter
morning.
Stephen attended these hunts each year and was deeply affected by her
passing. He wanted to keep her "legacy" alive for future generations to
enjoy as he had. Stephen labored for a year and on Easter Morning
2015, with the help of Troop 24, The Beacon Program at I.S. 2 and
individuals from his current school, SI Tech, and his former, Dreyfus
Intermediate, the first annual Gemma Caramante Memorial Easter Egg
Hunt was held on the grounds of Pouch Camp.
Stephen stated he feels blessed to have been able to recreate the event.
He further is proud to have known "Aunt" Gemma, and, though not a
blood relative, had the honor to address her as such. Her event brought
joy to an incalculable amount of children, including Stephen, during her
45 years of coordinating the event. With the help of UAU, it is Stephen's
intent for the continuance of the hunt in perpetuity and the bringing of joy
to children for years to come.

Stephen Zachary Trombetta

Stephen was born April 22, 1999, at Staten Island North. He was
introduced at a tender age to the idea of giving back to his
community. He was but two months old when he attended his first
board meeting.
Stephen served at the United Activities Brunch each year selling
raffle tickets and now leads the attendees in the Pledge of
Allegiance. Every two years, he volunteers for the Gift of Life Van
fundraiser at the Staaten Restaurant. Additionally, he has
participated in the fundraising walks for Light of the Night and Breast
Cancer, and has raised funds for the Leukemia Foundation, Penny
Harvest and the March of Dimes for as long as he can remember.
As a student at IS 49, He was always the first to volunteer for all
events being held and organized, and ran an entire bake sale one
year to help those in need after a natural disaster. To this day, he
is called back by former teachers and administrators when events
are coming up.
Thought baptized at Our Lady Queen of Peace, Holy Rosary has
been his parish since birth. Each year he assists at the annual mass
book opening event. Additionally, Stephen has helped decorate
(and undecorate) the church for Christmas and Easter. There, too,
he lends a hand when one is needed.
He is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars,
serves as a National Honor Society minion at Staten Island Tech,
was recently inducted to the National Honor Society, works as a
camp counselor over the summers, currently holds a position
working at SI Tech via SYEP, and serves as a junior docent at the
Staten Island Zoo.
In the future, Stephens goal is to attend a prominent school for
veterinary medicine, and hopes to one day own a practice.

Thank you to all those who helped with my Eagle Project. I

appreciate all your support through my scouting career too. This
project was deeply personal to me. Since I was a little child I went
to "Aunt" Gemma's Egg Hunt at her house. As I became older I
really saw what went into it and what she was doing for children.
When she passed, I was deeply affected. When I began working on
the Eagle project, I knew I wanted to do something that was
extremely personal. United Activities had already asked my input in
recreating a hunt to be in her memory. I thought why can I not do
something that does not occur any longer for my project. I spoke to
"Uncle" Lou, he conferred with the Judge and my Eagle project was
born. I made Life the September after "Aunt" Gemma's passing, my
project was approved two months later that November, and the rest
is history so to speak.

The Eagle

by Emily M. Parris
The eagle is a magnificent bird
Who soars with Graceful ease
Hes a symbol of our heritage
As he glides upon the breeze.
Hes a symbol of our freedom
In his soaring boundless flight
A beacon for humanity
And a splendid, noble sight.
His huge wingspan maneuvers him
In boundless soaring flight
Oh eagle, in your majesty
May we follow you tonight.
May we soar like eagles on the wings
Of dreams composed of light
Oh, eagle, in your splendor
May we follow you tonight.

The Troop 24 family extends its warmest welcome to you, the

relatives and friends of Stephen Trombetta. This afternoon we
honor a young man who has attained the highest award of the
Boy Scouts of America, the Eagle Award. Fewer than five per
cent of all boys who enter Scouting achieve this, the top rung
of the ladder of advancement. Troop 24 salutes this new Eagle
Scout who has brought honor to himself, his family, his
community and to our troop. We wish him continued success in
all his future endeavors.
