Upon the ending to 8th grade at Newhart Middle School, Janes friend offered
her a lunch, given that she had forgotten to pack one for the days occurrence. Like any
such offer, Jane was quickly took take advantage thereof and ordered from the seemingly
clean and pristine lunch lines a rib sandwich with a water. Shortly thereafter,
unfortunately, Jane was in sat in her next class period sitting in her assigned seat with her
hands covering her noticeably pale face. About 25 minutes into the class, Jane rushed to
her teacher notifying her of my upset stomach in which she would ignore to the extent
that it was my previous meals food poisoning that caused such agony and sickness that
resulted in Janes dismissal from school for the next two days. Awkward sentenceAfter
discovering the ways school systems have attempted to change school lunches, the
United States government passed the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act in 2012 in which
terminateding the sale of foods and mandateding for healthier options for these students
as their health has been deemed such a large concern. These foods, previously served
before the passing of the bill in 2012 included that of greasy pizza, salty french fries,
and sauced up chicken wings to students in schools across America (Murphy). Over the
years the government has been trying to improve schools lunches to make them more
nutritional for the students, the nutritional profile of school meals in the United States
[has] improved substantially since [these] government standards went into effect in 2012

(Tavernise). The statistics show that we have made some improvements to our school
systems but we could still change a few things to make the lunch programs at school
healthier. The best way that we can improve our school lunch systems is by allowing
students to have more access to healthier lunch options and also should be able to choose
the type of lunches they want.
Need commentary between citationsThe problem with schools and their lunches
derives from the disatisfaction of the students desires and necessities. Unfortunately,
school board directors have felt the need to abide only by the rules and regulations
required by the state and federal government. In accordance to these respective schools
where such change has taken place, food and nutrition directors at school districts
nationwide say that their trash cans are overflowing while their receipts are diminishing
as children either toss out the healthier meals or opt to brown-bag it (Murphy).
Contradictory to that of the students desires are the guidelines in which mandate for food
to be prepared in a certain manner and initially formulated therein, however, kids from
coast to coast are wrinkling their noses (Murphy). Another problem that was found was
in the movie Food Inc. which is that most processed foods contain some sort of cornsyrup ingredient(Food Inc.). This is a problem because since corn is cheap and corn
syrup contains a lot of sugar. And since most food offered in schools are processed which
means most likely they contain a lot of sugar and are unhealthy for students. Concluding
Sentence
Fortunately, there are solutions exist to fix such an over sensitive topic. Thanks to
the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2012, meals must be lower in fat, calories and
sodium and contain lean proteins, more fruits and vegetables and whole grains

(Murphy). Given such drastic change has been accounted for, students now have a chance
to stand against a sense of the obesity epidemic that has struck down on millions of
citizens all across America. Evidently, this may even be the solution to diabetes as a
whole. If the government practices and puts these guidelines to the test in school districts
across America, it could influence the same behavior in households across America as
well. To further express the need for solution, students at Tesoro voiced their opinion on
how these lunches should be changed. It seemed as though the taste and health factors
played the largest role in satisfaction more so than meeting guidelines of the state and
federal governments. (Faust) It is with great confidence that these students are not
concerned with the school following rules and guidelines, however, they want something
that will meet their standards as they are the consumers that should dictate what is
deemed best for themselves.
As a culmination of problems and plausible solutions to reprimand these problems
has resulted in a higher quality food branch in that of school lunch programs. The
students now are the future of this country and if we can not save their health before it is
too late who knows what will happen to ur country in the future. With confirmation from
arguably the most credible sources regarding such a controversial topic, it has been
viewed as a large issue with even bigger solution to aid the students across America and
their health status. With a change in the ways that we treat our school system lunches, by
offering more healthier options, we can improve our students health and welfare before it
is too late.
