Kameny, Franklin Edward. The Kameny Papers. N.p.: n.p., n.d. Library of Congress. Web. 10
May 2016. Kameny -- a very momentous figure in the LGBT movement -- became
central in the confrontation against the federal government's policies barring the
employment of gays and lesbians, particularly in positions linked to national security.
Furthermore, because Kameny saved every piece of paper documenting that struggle, all
of these letters, appeals, and other documents are now accessible online. This made this
collection of the Library of Congress a very valuable source, providing insight into the
early movement.
Lynch, Loretta. "Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch Delivers Remarks at Press Conference
Announcing Complaint Against the State of North Carolina to Stop Discrimination
Against Transgender Individuals." Washington, DC. 9 May 2016. Speech. This speech by
Attorney General Loretta Lynch shows the national government (of the Obama
administration) opposition to the laws in North Carolina, which she calls "statesponsored" and "state-sanctioned" discrimination laws. This speech shows one of the
attempts to remedy the current issue.
Mississippi (State). Legislature. Assembly. AN ACT TO CREATE THE "PROTECTING
FREEDOM OF CONSCIENCE FROM GOVERNMENT DISCRIMINATION ACT"...
(HB 1523). 2016 Reg. Sess. (April 4, 2016). Mississippi State Legislature. Web. 10 May.
2016. This State House Bill from the Mississippi state legislature was signed into law on
April 5, 2016. It is set to come into effect by July 1st, 2016. Its stated intent is to protect
"sincerely held religious beliefs or moral convictions," specifically that "Marriage is or

should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman." Though this act states
that it provides protection from government discrimination, it actually as such protects
individuals who discriminate against LGBT individuals. It came about as a response to
the U.S. Supreme Court Decision in Obergefell v. Hodges.
