Taking Care of A Kitten

Priority: Bring to a Vet for further instructions


To check on eyes
To check for any sickness
To find out the age
Instructions on diet, supplements, or medications
Deworming
Meanwhile:
Bonding

Maintain POSITIVE interaction

Play with him before sleeping so that hell have less energy to disturb
your sleep

Play with him using different toys (strings, balls, feathers) to prevent
him from getting bored

If you want the kitten to be attached to you, dont hesitate to act like
his mom and cuddle him.

Kitten can be lifted/carried by pinching to the back of his neck, like


momma cats do

DO NOT let the cat play bite you. Withdraw your hand immediately
and redirect his attention to a toy

Do not scold the cat. Cats do not learn from negative reinforcements
like dogs.
Socializing

Introduce him to all kinds of disturbances so he wont be afraid of


them when he grows up

Must be socialized with other cats under supervision

Must also be socialized with people so he wont bite or swat


To keep him hygienic

Clean eyes with warm water and cotton balls

Clean ears

Bathe with warm water and anti-flea soap if he still has fleas
Litter Training

Position the litter box in a peaceful place away from food/water

If you want kitty to forgo the litter box in the future and use the
"outside world to do his business, consider placing the litter box
near the door/window/accessible area to the outside.

Introduce him to the litter box after eating

Let him dig a bit

If he poops/pees, reward him with praises or treat

Clean the litter box twice a day or as often as you want


Diet

The vet may prescribe a diet

Can be a combination of wet and dry food:

Wet food: different types of fish, cooked/boiled OR store-bought ones


like Whiskas Junior (may be a bit more expensive), canned fish
Dry cat food: less expensive
Since hes still a kitten, you can give him warm, lactose-free formula
milk (optional)
KMR or Lactol (bought at pet stores)
AL 110 (in Mercury Drug)
COSI (in supermarkets' pet section).
He can be fed milk every 4-6 hrs since hes probably at least 3-4
weeks old

Cat litter
Cat food
Cat Carrier (for transportation)
Litter scooper
collar (optional)
