Backpack, Grooming, Electronic, and Dress Code Guidelines

2016-2017

Dear Parent or Guardian,


At Stillman Middle School, we will continue to implement the BISD middle school dress code, grooming,
backpack, electronics, and accessories policy for students. The following allowable and non-allowable guidelines are
for the 2016 2017 school year.

ALLOWABLE

NOT ALLOWABLE

Shirts
Color: Solid BURNT ORANGE or WHITE
Collared polo shirts - Monday Friday
(Note: Stillman M.S. Logo or Longhorn Logo only
Stillman Spirit (white, orange and black) T-Shirt or
UT T-Shirt Friday ONLY
Only solid burnt orange, white or black undershirts
Jackets (Hoodies)

Shirts and Jackets (Hoodies)


Bright or neon orange or melon colors or any other color
)

Only solid burnt orange, white or black jacket


(Note: Stillman M.S. Logo, Longhorn Logo, UT Logo

Logos, symbols or names of any affiliation (i.e.,Aeropostale,


Polo, American Eagle)
Colored undershirts (except burnt orange, white or black)

Shirts displaying obscenities, suggestive slogans,


nudity, crime, violence, drug, alcohol designs, skulls,
customized designs or writing done by students

Exceptions to color only when the temperature for that school


Blouses or button-down shirts
day will remain below 60 degrees.

Pants, Shorts, Skirts or Dresses


Color: SOLID khaki or SOLID blue denim jeans
Pants must be worn around the waist. (Use belt if needed)
Shorts or skirts at appropriate length no shorter than one
inch above the knee.

Backpacks/Gym Bags
Only clear, transparent, or mesh backpacks. Purses should
be compact.

Hair, Accessories and Make-Up


Hair will be properly groomed, away from the face and of
natural color.
Bows, ribbons, and headbands are allowed on girls.
Make-up shall not be work in such a way as to be
distracting.

Piercings
Earrings of a reasonable size for females only and limited to
one standard piercing on earlobe only

Names
Names on Friday Spirit Shirts and Jackets.
(Note: Legible font and No Nicknames, i.e. Shorty)

Pants, Shorts, Skirts, or Dresses


Color, black, multi-tone denim, plaid shorts or pants
(leggings/jeggings)
Shorts with elastic or pull up waistbands
Oversized, baggy, tight, transparent, or sagging pants,
shorts, and/or other clothing
Torn jeans or other garments (no fringe)

Backpacks/Gym Bags
Oversized duffle or small drawstring athletic bags that are
not transparent or mesh.

Hair, Accessories and Make-Up


Distracting hairstyles and/or unnatural colors.
(Ex. Mohawks, Fohawks, multi-tone colors, and the like)
Designs, logos, numbers, letters, symbols or other styles
deemed distracting that might be shaved into a hair style.
Distracting bows, ribbon, and/or headbands. (i.e. with
flowers, bling, inappropriate graphics, etc.)

Piercings
Facial piercing on nose/tongue/eyebrow, etc.
(males/females) Ear piercing on males
Large earrings, spikes, gauges, or earrings deemed
distracting
Exposed tattoos, body art (including writing on arms, etc.)
or body piercing (males/females)

The above list is not exhaustive. Campus administration may at any time, make a reasonable determination that an item of clothing,
style, manner of dress or grooming, or accessory poses an unacceptable risk of safety or disruption to the instructional environment
because it is inappropriately distracting, is intended or likely to cause offense, or incite conflict among the campus population. All
other BISD dress, grooming, and accessories guidelines will be enforced.
***Cell phones, iPods or other electronic devices such as wrist watch phones, electronic games or MP3 players are not allowed during school
hours. Any visible electronics or headphones/ear buds will be confiscated by campus administration. The school is not responsible for the
loss, damage, or theft of any personal belongings.
