What is the target problem?
Around 300 million Indians still havent experienced electricity. The inability to
provide adequate and reliable energy to its citizens, diminishes their economic growth and stability and
decreases social productivities.

Core issue is the inability to provide electricity at an affordable cost to all the
citizens of India

In this model GE uses mobile payments and solar photovoltaic (PV)

technology to bring affordable, clean, renewable power to communities
across India that never had access to electricity before. It works on the
scheme pay as you go and these solar energy systems provides emissionsand pollution-free electricity.

Business Model
The total population in India is 1.3 Billion in which 886 million people are active mobile
users. But still 300 million people are far from reach to electricity. . In this model GE
uses mobile payments and solar photovoltaic (PV) technology to bring

affordable, clean, renewable power to communities across India that never

had access to electricity before. It works on the scheme pay as you go and
these solar energy systems provides emissions- and pollution-free electricity.
The user lends the Solar kit (LiteUp) from the GE dealers I.e, through PPP agencies
where people usually get their Cooking gas cylinder and monthly ration like rice, sugar
and etc. The user needs to pay a deposit amount of $35 where he has an option to fund
the deposit amount through GE Finance as microfinance loan, where he needs to pay
back in monthly installments within a year.

To make LitUp working, the user needs pay on a daily basis. This can be done by
topping up every day to the tune of around Rs.3/- (0.50 cents) to get the electricity to
his/her house. The payment can be done through his mobile, where his mobile balance
gets deducted as a part of the daily payment and these payments gets be processed to
GE Energy.
Basically the GSM sensors are placed inside the solar systems to monitor and regulate
usage based upon payments. After 12 months of regular payments, users acquire full
ownership of the solar system and have access to free solar energy.
The whole idea can transform the way people consume the energy and the importance of it.
Pros: Helping 300 million people to light at least a bulb at their homes at a most affordable
price.

GE can help create a sustainable economy by creating jobs, enabling

residents to start their own small businesses, providing education and
training and improving overall community.

IMPLEMENTATION PLAN
We proposed to implement this plan in the state of Bihar since it is one of the
backward states in India and there are approximately 104 million people who
live their lives away from electricity.
We choose Patna distict to start our pilot project. We intend to collaborate
with local government bodies, NGOS and local politicians to help this project.
1) Building relationships with local bodies and NGOs since these entities
have a sense of respect and belief among our target users.
2) Collaborate with Government for subsidies
3) Partner with Cellular service providers to become part of the business
4) Involving GE Finance to provide microfinance loans to the our target
users in order to buy the system.

5) Select and train and hire people from the community to help resolve
the technical issues in the system.
