Aphrodite was the god of love.

Her
roman name was Venus. She was the
Goddess of beauty, fertility and she
DYK? was the protectress of sailors. The poet
Hesiod said she was born from sea
foam. Homer, on the other hand said
she was the daughter of Zeus and
Dione.

Aphrodite got married to Hephaestus, the God of

fire. Anyone who sees her falls in love with her.
The Myrtle is her tree. The dove, swan and
sparrow are her birds. She has a girdle which
contains the power to compel love.
Hera (Roman name Juno) was Zeus’s wife and
sister. She was the 2nd most important Goddess.
This made her the Queen of the Olympians. Her
sacred animals are the cow and peacock. Hera is
the Goddess of marriage and childbirth. Hera
hated the hero Heracles because he was the son
of Zeus and another mortal lady. When he was a
child, Hera sent snakes to attack him in his cot.
She also stirred up the Amazons against him
when he was on a quest.

However, she aided Jason, who wouldn’t of got the Golden Fleece
without her.

In mythology, she WAS married to Zeus making her the Queen. But
historians have found out that Hera was worshipped long before the
belief about Zeus. This was probably the first God(dess) that many
believed in. This means the first God(dess) was actually a woman.
She took many forms, like a bird.

Tens of thousands of years ago, caveman art shows women that are
pregnant or fit to have a child. They believed having children was an
honour.

When it came to a time, which was about 9,000 years ago, European
descendants of these cavemen who lived in villages believed that
the Goddesses took many forms, sometimes even the Earth.
