World wide
web

The world wide web is a massive part when it comes to

interactive media and other types of general media. Most web
browsers now use a variety of different multimedia such as text,
sound, images, videos which are navigation with the use of
hyperlinks.
On the internet these days there are lot`s of different websites
that are purely about uploading videos, downloading songs,
streaming and viewing. Examples of websites like this are ones
such as, mp3 juices, twitch, YouTube and many more.
The web is very good and useful with interactive media as it has
all forms of it combined. Videos are used for instructions as
interactive media especially on YouTube with adverts that pop up
very often.

E-mail
attachments

E-mail attachments are the files that get sent to the

world wide web with e-mails that the person who is
receiving it can then download it. These attachments are
mainly used by your mates or work co-worker sharing
images, videos, and other work.
E-mail attachment are usually small and about 35mb.
They also have text documents and power point
presentation documents to the video formats.
There are inherent dangers with messaging and file
sharing on the world wide web when using e-mail
attachments. There are people out there that can send
you computer viruses and much more harmful
programmes in a e-mail which we call malicious users.

DVD and CD
ROM

Digital versatile disc or DVDs and CD roms are two of the most
used forms of media storage and they are both optical disc
storage formats. DVDs are the same size as CD roms but they
have a bigger capacity of 6 times and more.
You can use both DVDs and CD roms to store videos, audio and
other normal data with the difference of the size of the storage
capability and how they are read. The problem however with
both of them is the fact that they can not store high definition
picture but the ones that can and the only ones are blue ray and
discontinued HD-DVD.
DVD as platform for video advantage is that they can play on
DVD players and all PCs with almost every next gen consoles.
There are two main formats that are used for data stored on CDROMs

Kiosk
s

Interactive kiosks and web kiosks are the main types of kiosks.
With interactive kiosks they are used with video as a platform for instructs or inter-active
maps. Lots of kiosks have touch screens in fact most do but there are others that have a
set-up like a computer with a mouse and keyboard.
The interactive kiosks are computers that have a tailor made interface and that is right for
the task of the kiosk. What this mostly means is that the user will have access to only the
things that are necessary. An example of a interactive kiosk is one that is in a shopping
mall which you see a lot around as they give you information about were everything is and
the shop that you are looking for.
There are also web kiosks that are based in public and other business areas like hotels,
train stations, lobby's, airports etc. they give access to the internet for a pay-per-use cost.
Kiosks are mostly used by travellers or tourists to find landmarks or places that they want
to see or have to go to.

Presentati
ons

What the definition of presentation is: showing and explaining

content of a topic to an audience or leaner.
The most popular way of creating a presentation and the type
of software to use Microsoft PowerPoint.
The best way of getting the information across as a presenter
is to use different aspects of media such as videos, images,
sound, font, and animations.
One of the most useful is to use videos as when your creating
the presentation they serve as examples of the work you have
done or to show information in a different way instead of you
just talking why not just use a 3 minute video.

Mobile
devices

Mobile devices are hand held communication and entertainment and range from
phones, ipads, ipods and more.
These days pretty much every mobile device has the use of video in one way or
another such as a video screen so you can watch videos and there are also
videos stored onto the device so the user can take there own videos and capture
moments.
Now that we are in the 21st century and everything is now getting upgraded and
new, there are lots of different mobile devices and they come in all sorts of
different shapes and sizes. The technology is becoming a lot more advanced and
we now have touch screens, web access, streaming videos, user-made
applications and more. Now mobile devices are the staple platform for
interactive video and media.
One of the main advantages with mobile devices over static technology is the
fact that they can be used absolutely anywhere and can call from country to
country but the problem is that they are nowhere near as powerful as desktop
computers.

File
Size

The file size of a computer is how much storage it has. It is very

important when you are putting a video onto a platform on devices
like mobiles, DVDs and CDs as they all have a finite amount of space.
On the electrical devices or on the storage they have that is used for
video, audio, software, work and more.
Bytes is what is used to measure file size and there is usually 8 bits
that are binary values of 1 or 10. one of the most common file sized
units are bytes with 8 bits or kilobytes that have 1024 bytes,
megabytes that have 1048,576 bytes and then gigabytes that have a
whole 1073,74,824 bytes. There are a lot more types but a video file
doesn`t really exceed more than 1000 gigabytes.
A lot of file sizes are very big because most encompass mostly all of
the forms of multimedia. It is important to make sure that the file size
is as low as it can be because they do dill up users hard drives and
end up in slowing a PC. There are 4 main things that creators and
users have to do if they want to reduce the file size on videos such as;
reduce the frame rate, increase the key frame rate, reduce the
resolution and change the compressor.

Streami
ng

Streaming is when data is sent from one person to another from over
the network. The most common way of this is the internet with the
receiver viewing the data as it is sent to them.
One of the main advantages of streaming over downloads is the fact
that you are able to watch and see the content straight away unlike
downloads where the user will have to end up waiting until the whole
of the file has been downloaded.
What the user has to have is a player and that is a certain program
that is un-compressed and that sends video data to the display with
audio data to speakers. A player can be an integral part of a browser
or downloaded from software makers web site. There can be inherent
risks when you are streaming video files as the software or the
streaming files can end up being harmful to the computer.
Another advantage of streaming a video is that it is sent from prerecorded video files, but it can be distributed as part of a live
broadcast feed like a news cast.

Frame
Rate

Frame rate is the number of frames that are projected onto

a television, video, computer screen per second. Frames
are measured in frames per second or FPS.
The content will play a lot faster if there is a higher frame
rate. Videos have big file sizes then the lower the frame
rate is then the less amount of performance is needed on a
lot less powerful machines and improve playback when
streaming.
When you are playing a video on the internet then you will
have to have the maximum frame rate that the playback
platforms will allow you. This is also important information
for mobile devices. An editor for videos or a creator will
have to have the maximum frame rate of websites.

Data transfer
rates

DTR stands for data transfer rate and what that means is
the speed that data can be transmitted from device to
device. The rate of transfer is usually measured in
kilobytes or megabytes per second.
There is an increase of file sizes and for that reason the
size of an internet user data transfer rate is very
important. If the connection speed is fast then the video
can be downloaded on the internet.

The internet is not the only place where you can get
transfer data rate but also to computers appliances like
hard drives. There is a huge difference when it comes to
they speed od transfer data rate and appliance speed. A
hard drive might have a maximum of data transfer rate of
480 mbps where as a internet service provider or isp
could offer and internet connected with the maximum of
1.5 mbps.

Video file
formats

Video file formats or as they are also known as

container format are the best ways for storing
information and identified in computer files.

The most commonly used file formats are as such;

AVI Microsoft windows files, MOV for quicktime files,
realmedia for real player format, MKV matroska file,
MP4 primary MPEG-4 format, diveX media format.
The main two differences that there are between
major files formats are, overhead which is the
difference between file sizes in each of the formats,
and support that is if there are any updates to the
format to keep it up to date.

Ratio
s
Video ratio and aspect ratio refers to the width of a picture
and screen and the height of it. These ratios are shown as
the width x height such as 4:3 ratio means that the picture
is 4 units wide and 3 units high. PAL standard 720x576,
Modem, NTSC 4:3 (162x120 pixels), Modem PAL 4:3
(160x120 pixels),
T1/DSL/Cable NTSC 4:3 (648x480 pixels), T1/DSL/Cable
PAL 4:3 (768x576 pixels).

Digital rights management

systems

Digital rights management or DRM is a very

commonly used form of access control that can be
used by hardware manufacturers, publishers,
copyright holders and individuals to stop uses their
products. The term is used to describe different
technology or methods that help the uses of digital
content that were not desired by the creator. The
term doesn't usually refer to other forms of copy
protection which can be bypassed without modifying
the file or device, for example serial numbers. Digital
rights management is being used by companies such
as Sony,, Microsoft, BBC, Apple .
