DVD and CD
ROM
Digital versatile disc or DVDs and CD roms are two of the most
used forms of media storage and they are both optical disc
storage formats. DVDs are the same size as CD roms but they
have a bigger capacity of 6 times and more.
You can use both DVDs and CD roms to store videos, audio and
other normal data with the difference of the size of the storage
capability and how they are read. The problem however with
both of them is the fact that they can not store high definition
picture but the ones that can and the only ones are blue ray and
discontinued HD-DVD.
DVD as platform for video advantage is that they can play on
DVD players and all PCs with almost every next gen consoles.
There are two main formats that are used for data stored on CDROMs
Kiosk
s
Interactive kiosks and web kiosks are the main types of kiosks.
With interactive kiosks they are used with video as a platform for instructs or inter-active
maps. Lots of kiosks have touch screens in fact most do but there are others that have a
set-up like a computer with a mouse and keyboard.
The interactive kiosks are computers that have a tailor made interface and that is right for
the task of the kiosk. What this mostly means is that the user will have access to only the
things that are necessary. An example of a interactive kiosk is one that is in a shopping
mall which you see a lot around as they give you information about were everything is and
the shop that you are looking for.
There are also web kiosks that are based in public and other business areas like hotels,
train stations, lobby's, airports etc. they give access to the internet for a pay-per-use cost.
Kiosks are mostly used by travellers or tourists to find landmarks or places that they want
to see or have to go to.

Mobile
devices
Mobile devices are hand held communication and entertainment and range from
phones, ipads, ipods and more.
These days pretty much every mobile device has the use of video in one way or
another such as a video screen so you can watch videos and there are also
videos stored onto the device so the user can take there own videos and capture
moments.
Now that we are in the 21st century and everything is now getting upgraded and
new, there are lots of different mobile devices and they come in all sorts of
different shapes and sizes. The technology is becoming a lot more advanced and
we now have touch screens, web access, streaming videos, user-made
applications and more. Now mobile devices are the staple platform for
interactive video and media.
One of the main advantages with mobile devices over static technology is the
fact that they can be used absolutely anywhere and can call from country to
country but the problem is that they are nowhere near as powerful as desktop
computers.

Streami
ng
Streaming is when data is sent from one person to another from over
the network. The most common way of this is the internet with the
receiver viewing the data as it is sent to them.
One of the main advantages of streaming over downloads is the fact
that you are able to watch and see the content straight away unlike
downloads where the user will have to end up waiting until the whole
of the file has been downloaded.
What the user has to have is a player and that is a certain program
that is un-compressed and that sends video data to the display with
audio data to speakers. A player can be an integral part of a browser
or downloaded from software makers web site. There can be inherent
risks when you are streaming video files as the software or the
streaming files can end up being harmful to the computer.
Another advantage of streaming a video is that it is sent from prerecorded video files, but it can be distributed as part of a live
broadcast feed like a news cast.

Data transfer
rates
DTR stands for data transfer rate and what that means is
the speed that data can be transmitted from device to
device. The rate of transfer is usually measured in
kilobytes or megabytes per second.
There is an increase of file sizes and for that reason the
size of an internet user data transfer rate is very
important. If the connection speed is fast then the video
can be downloaded on the internet.
The internet is not the only place where you can get
transfer data rate but also to computers appliances like
hard drives. There is a huge difference when it comes to
they speed od transfer data rate and appliance speed. A
hard drive might have a maximum of data transfer rate of
480 mbps where as a internet service provider or isp
could offer and internet connected with the maximum of
1.5 mbps.

Ratio
s
Video ratio and aspect ratio refers to the width of a picture
and screen and the height of it. These ratios are shown as
the width x height such as 4:3 ratio means that the picture
is 4 units wide and 3 units high. PAL standard 720x576,
Modem, NTSC 4:3 (162x120 pixels), Modem PAL 4:3
(160x120 pixels),
