CE 15 Take Home Computational Lab 9 (Internal Viscous Effects)

General Instruction:
Answer each problem carefully and individually. Show your complete solution and state all assumptions
made. Box your final answers. Submit your solutions not later than 5 PM tomorrow, May 4, 2016, at my
pigeonhole.

Problem 1:
Oil with a kinematic viscosity of 1 x 10-3 m2/s is flowing
inside the pipe network shown. The internal diameter of
each pipe is shown in the figure. The discharge in pipe E
is 1 m3/s. Determine the minimum value of the discharge
in pipe A, QA, if it must be ensured that the flow in pipes
C and D must be turbulent.

Problem 2:
For the given pipe system between two tanks, find the headloss and discharge in the pipe, and
classify the flow as laminar or turbulent. Justify your answer based on the Reynolds number.
