Definition: ADD
is a biologically
based condition.

inability to focus
and remain on
task,

not to be
listening,

Mainstreaming

The practice of placing special


education students in general
education classes for at least
part of the school day while also
providing additional services,
programs or classes needed.

Note, all children from time to


time can suffer from the above
symptoms, however, and ADD
child suffers from these
symptoms on a regular basis.

What Is Autism?
Typically, students with Autism have
significantly impaired social and
communication development.
Autistic children show minimal
interest in most, and in some cases
all learning and social situations.
Autism affects thought, attention and
perception.
More males then to be affected than
females.

How to Care and Help

Provide incentives and


reinforcement that is
individualized for autistic
students.
The environment should have
minimal transitions and
stimulus.
The child should have a safe
and predictable environment.
