by the constant grace of our Lord. We thank the
Father for bringing them together in love and we pray
that He may bless and consecrate their life in
marriage.

Brethren (brothers and sisters), let us acknowledge our

sins, that we may prepare ourselves to celebrate the
sacred mysteries.

(The Commentator shall wait for the Priest to start)

P:

I confess to almighty God

C/All: and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly
sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have
done and in what I have failed to do,
(We strike our breast during the next two lines)

through my fault, through my fault, through my most

grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and
sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

P:
All:

May Almighty God have mercy on us forgive our sins, and

bring us to everlasting life.
AMEN.

The Kyrie, Eleison (Lord, have mercy) invocations follow, the unless they have
just occurred in a formula of the Penitential Act.

The Nuptial Mass

Opening Prayer
P:

Let us pray,
Father, you have made the bond of marriage a holy
mystery, a symbol of Christs love for his Church.
Hear our prayers for Arnold and Jelly, with faith in you
and in each other they pledge their love today.
May their lives always bear witness to the reality of that
love.
We ask you this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one
God, forever and ever.

C/All: AMEN.

C:

Please be seated to listen to the Word of God.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING
(1 Cor:12:31-13:8)

R:

A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians

Set your hearts on the greater gifts. I will show you the way which
surpasses all the others. If I speak with human tongues and
angelic as well, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong, a clanging
cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and, with full knowledge,
comprehend all mysteries, if I have faith great enough to move
mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give everything I
have to feed the poor and hand over my body to be burned, but
have not love, I gain nothing.

The Nuptial Mass

Love is patient; love is kind. Love is not jealous, it does not put on
airs, it is not snobbish. Love is never rude, it is not self-seeking, it
is not prone to anger; neither does it brood over injuries. Love
does not rejoice in what is wrong but rejoices with the truth. There
is no limit to love's forbearance, to its trust, its hope, its power to
endure.
Love never fails.
R:

The Word of the Lord.

C/All: THANKS BE TO GOD.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
(Psalm 33:5, 12, 18, 20-21, 22)

The earth is filled with the goodness of the Lord

R:

Happy the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he

has chosen for his own inheritance. But see, the eyes of the
Lord are upon those who fear him, upon those who hope
for his kindness. Response.

R:

Our soul waits for the Lord, who is our help and shield.
For in him our hearts rejoice; in his holy name we trust.
Response.

R:

May your kindness, O Lord, be upon us who have put our

hope in you. Response.

C:

Please rise to honor the Holy Gospel

The Nuptial Mass

ALLELUIA-ACCLAMATION
(1 Jn. 4:12)

Alleluia, alleluia.
If we love one another God will live in us in
perfect love. Alleluia, alleluia

GOSPEL READING
(Jn 15: 9-12)

P:
The Lord be with you.
C/All: AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT.
P:
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John
C/All: GLORY TO YOU, O LORD.
Jesus said to his disciples:
As the Father loves me, so I also love you.
Remain in my love.
If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love,
Just as I have kept my Fathers commandments and remain
in his love.
I have told you this so that my joy might be in you
and your joy might be complete.
This is my commandment: love one another as I love
you.
P:
The Gospel of the Lord.
C/All: PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

HOMILY
C:

Please be seated.

The Nuptial Mass

C:

Please remain seated as we begin the rite of

marriage.

LIGHTING OF CANDLES
C:

We will now have the lighting of the candles. May we

request the Candle Sponsors to please come forward and
light the candles.
Arnold and Jelly, Christ is the light, the source of life. May
you always bear Christs light to others.
Arnold and Jelly entered the church as two separate
individuals. In the Holy Matrimony, they have been joined
by God and have become one flesh and one individual. The
flame is a symbol of Gods warmth, wisdom, love, hope
and life, now and forever.

C:

May we request Arnold and Jelly to please stand, and their

parents and godparents to rise and stay at their own
designated places.

P:

My dear Arnold and Jelly, you have come here today so

that the Lord may eternally seal your love in the presence
of His Church. Christ abundantly blesses this love. He has
already consecrated you in baptism and now He enriches
you through a special sacrament so that you may assume
the duties of marriage in mutual and lasting fidelity.

P:

And you, dear parents, godparents, relatives and friends,

let us join Arnold and Jelly in prayer as they forever
pledge their love to one another.

Dearly beloved, let us now pray for the Church and for
Arnold and Jelly whom God has bestowed upon the Holy
Sacrament of Matrimony.
For the following petitions, let our response be:
Lord, graciously hear us.

R:

For the Church, may it continue to be guided by the faith

of love of Jesus. Let us pray to the Lord.

R:

For Arnold and Jelly, may their love for each other always
be molded on the love of God and the Father, and may
their love for each other reflect Gods love for His people.
Let us pray to the Lord.

R:

For Arnold and Jellys parents, who gave them life and
first taught them how to love, may God continue to bless
them with happiness, good health and a loving spirit. Let
us pray to the Lord.

R:

For Arnold and Jelly family, relatives, and friends, and for
all of us present here, may the happiness of this celebration

of Gods kingdom of love always inspire us to be loving in
our ways. Let us pray to the Lord.
P:

Heavenly Father, look down with favor upon your servants

Arnold and Jelly Grant that they remain faithful to you
and to one another. At the end of a well-spent life, reward
them with eternal happiness together with their children
and with all those who love them. We ask this through
Christ our Lord.

(When the couple kneels down, go with the next line)

C:

May we ask the Veil Sponsors to place the veil over Groom
and Bride. Followed by the Cord Sponsors.
Arnold and Jelly, the veil emphasizes your union and your
mutual self-surrender. May you grow in unity and selfsacrifice as you begin a new stage of reciprocity and
giftedness of self n your married life.
The cord refers to yoke which means two things:
something has to be carried, and also something that
unites those who carry it. Arnold and Jelly, may you
always be united in carrying out your obligations of the
married state.

goodness we have received the bread we offer you: fruit of
the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us
the bread of life.

All:

BLESSED BE GOD FOREVER.

P:

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your

the vine and work of human hands it will become our
spiritual drink.

All:

BLESSED BE GOD FOREVER.

C:

Please stand.

P:

Pray, brethren (brothers and sisters), that my sacrifice and

yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father.

All:

May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the

Lord, accept our offering for this newly married couple,

Arnold and Jelly By your love and providence you have

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
P:
All:

The Lord be with you.

AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT.

P:
All:

Lift up your hearts.

WE LIFT THEM UP TO THE LORD.

P:
All:

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

IT IS RIGHT AND JUST.

P:

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always
and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father,
almighty and eternal God, through Christ our Lord.
You have designed chaste love of husband and wife for the
increase both of the human family and of your own family
born in baptism.
Through Christ, the choirs of angels and all the saints
praise and worship Your Glory. May our voices blend with
theirs as we join in their unending hymn of praise:

All:

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of Hosts.

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

C:

Please kneel.

17

The Nuptial Mass

P: You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make
holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your
Spirit upon them like the dewfall, so that they may become for
us the Body and Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his Passion,
he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his
disciples, saying: TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT:
FOR THIS IS MY BODY WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR
YOU.
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and,
once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying: TAKE
THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT: FOR THIS IS THE
CHALICE OF MY BLOOD, THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND
ETERNAL COVENANT, WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR
YOU AND FOR MANY FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.
P:

The mystery of faith.

All:

Save us, Savior of the world, for by your Cross and

Resurrection you have set us free.

C:

Please stand.

P:
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his Death and
Resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the Bread of life and the Chalice
of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in
your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that,
partaking in the Body and Blood of Christ, we may be gathered
into one by the Holy Spirit.

18

The Nuptial Mass

Remember, Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world, and
bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Francis our Pope
and Luis Antonio our Archbishop, and all the clergy.

Be mindful also, Lord, of Arnold and Jelly, whom

you have brought to their wedding day, so
that by your grace they may abide in mutual
love and in peace.
Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in
the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy:
welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all,
we pray, that with the blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God,
with blessed Joseph, her Spouse, with the blessed Apostles, and
all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may
merit to be co-heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you
through your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through him, and with him, and in him, to you, O God, almighty
Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, is all honor and glory, for
ever and ever.
All:

AMEN.

P:

At the Saviors command and formed by divine teaching,

we dare to say / (sing):

(TO BE SUNG in short version only)

The Lords Prayer: Optional can also be recited only.

All:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy

kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in
heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us

19

our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against

All pray in silence. Then the Priest, with hands extended over the bride and
bridegroom continues:

Holy Father, maker of the whole world,

who created man and woman in your own image
and willed that their union be crowned with your blessing,
we humbly beseech you for these your servants,
who are joined today in the Sacrament of Matrimony.
May your abundant blessing, Lord,
come down upon this bride, Jelly.,
and upon Arnold, her companion for life,
and may the power of your Holy Spirit
set their hearts aflame from on high,
