    spendsaround$7billionannuallyforservicesandsupporttohomelesspeople,butitis
    feltthatthegovernmentshouldbeworkingmoreonpreventionofhomelessness.

    Inordertoaddressthegrowingconcern,theprocessofpreventionmustbedone
    extremelycarefully.Ifaffordablehousingismadetoaccommodatewomenandchildren,
    therewillstillbeissues.Familyhomelessnessisoftennotobvious,asfamiliesoften
    shelterwithfamilyorfriends.Between2005and2009,useofhomelesssheltersby
    childrenhasincreasedbyabout50%.Recentmethodsfocusmoreonthementallyillas
    opposedtothechildrenandfamilies.

    Therearedifferentrecommendationsfordifferentlevelsofgovernment.Foralllevelsof
    government:Implementachildrensmentalhealthactionplan,anddevelopaffordable
    housingprograms.ForFederalgovernment:Enactapovertyreductionpolicyanda
    nationalhousingbenefit.Forprovincialgovernments,givefinancialaidtofamilieswith
    children.Lastly,formunicipalgovernments,developareaswithaffordablehousingand
    emergencyshelterstohelpsupportthehomeless.
