How does a classroom environment and setting affect Thai high school students?

By: Noramon K. (Prim)

Abstract
The school environment should be beautiful, decor pleasing to the eye. Colorful for
children to absorb the beauty of the beautiful things around you such a connection with the
regulation. Children are encouraged to make environmental, aesthetic quality and neat with
everything in the classroom and will have already defined . These are placed in a children to
touch themselves, so neat and clean beauty is visible . Materials used in the classroom should
be easily cleaned or cleared to practice, let the kids have a habit of cleanliness. This is a habit
that can occur during the life (Sensitive periods) and these things will go well in the environment
of all the foregoing, it helps create the ambience of calm and peace.
Educational theory and research has indicated vast potentials of engaging learners as
designers. Yet we have much to learn about how to design such a learning environment
effectively. Mastery goals were linked to the presence of lecture engagement and the absence
of an evaluation focus and harsh evaluation, performance-approach goals were linked to the
presence of evaluation focus, and performance-avoidance goals were linked to the presence of
evaluation focus and harsh evaluation. The concept of psychosocial classroom environment
resonates with classroom practitioners; this field has become an avenue for study by classroom
teachers and school administrators who are interested in understanding the human dimensions
to classrooms. Hypothesized that differences in the classroom environment before and after the
transition were contributing to the negative changes in student beliefs and behaviors that
sometimes are associated with the move from elementary school to junior high school / decided
to undertake a two-year, four-wave panel study (the Transitions at Early Adolescence Project) to
investigate the impact of changes in classroom and family environments on early adolescents'
motives, beliefs, values, and behaviors / describes results from that research project by focusing
on four particular studies.
The relation between the learning environment (e.g., students' perceptions of the
classroom goal structure and teacher's' instructional discourse) and students' reported use of
avoidance strategies (self-handicapping, avoidance of help seeking) and preference to avoid
novelty in mathematics was examined. Quantitative analyses indicated that students' reports of
avoidance behaviors varied significantly among classrooms. A perceived emphasis on mastery
goals in the classroom was positively related to lower reports of avoidance. Qualitative analyses

revealed that teachers in high-mastery/low-avoidance and low-mastery/high-avoidance

classrooms used distinctively different patterns of instructional and motivational discourse.
Other characteristics such as the perceived ease of use of the course software package, the
perceived flexibility of the online classroom environment, and the amount of time students spent
logged onto the course Website were not significantly associated with student learning. These
findings suggest that while some level of technological sophistication may be important,
teaching expertise may be the primary criterion for teaching success in the online classroom
environment.
Introduction
The learning environment mean that physical environments surrounding the male
students both concrete and abstract. Affect learners both positive and negative and affects the
efficiency and effectiveness of the student learning such as classroom hygiene. Just enough
light clean airy with facilities suitable quality and support learning. Good study environment. It
sends a positive impact on learners, making the students learn happily are willing and eager to
learn . If the atmosphere is filled with dirty, untidy, dirty, filled with things that are not orderly. It
will affect negatively on the students make the class is filled with stress and teachers will feel
frustrated and not be good for teaching.

Method
First step that I do for my research is create the research question that I want to know
and want to learn about so the research question that I get is How does a classroom
environment and setting effect to That high school students? Then I will find the information
about my research question so I use Google scholar to find the data by use the keyword to
search it. When I get the information and data that I want I will read and try to understand the
information that gets from Google scholar. When I read and understand it I will write the
introduction about my research question and why I want to do this research and how I get the
benefit from it. I have to find some quotes that I like from article and next step is do the literature
review or abstract by using quote that I get from Google scholar. When I finish doing my
literature review I am going to do the observation. I go to observe in the classroom that arrange
the table in lines, in pairs, in groups, in U-shape and in the classroom that have bright light and
dim light. When I finish doing observation I have to do the survey. I set the question that I want

to know in my research question in my survey for seven to eight question. I do survey on online,
I paste my survey link and send it to my friend in high school. When I get the result from survey I
am trying to understand the answer from my friend that do my survey. Then I will do the
interview for delve into my research from survey and observation. I have to interview five
people, I got four people from MUIDS and other one people from my old school. When I finish
all of observation, my survey and interview I have to analyzed and discuss the information that I
get then write the conclusion.

Observation:

I am going to observe in the classroom that arranges the table in line, in pairs, in groups
and in U-shape. The result that I get tell me that in the classroom that arrange table in line make
students not much talking because teacher can see every people in classroom and because it is
difficult to turn left, turn right and turn around to talk with each other. In the classroom that
arrange table in pairs make students not talking because they can sit only in pairs so the
percent that students will talk a lot in groups will become lower and students will concentrate on
the lesson that they still learn in class. In the classroom that arrange table in groups make
students talkative and hard to concentrate to teacher because in each groups students will turn
face together and they can talk with each other easily. In the classroom that arrange table in Ushape make people concentrate to teacher because all of student in the classroom and teacher
can see each other so teacher will know what students do during he/she teach. In the classroom
that has dim light will make most of students easily sleepy.

Interview:

In lines

In my research project I interview 4 students in MUIDS and 1 student in my old school. 3

students tell me that the first thing that they think when they come in to classroom is their seat
because the first reason that make they want to come to school is friends so they want to sit
with their friends and one student told me that the first thing that they think when they come in to
the classroom is how bright classroom is because they are easily sleepy so if in the classroom
is not much bright in will make them sleepy and they dont want to feel sleepy all day. And other
one tell me that they think about classroom climate because if many students in classroom are
angry or so bored it will make environment in classroom so bored too.
They tell me about their grade and all of them tell me that their grade can depend on the
classroom environment because during school most of time they will stay in the classroom so if
they stay in place that make they feel bad it can affect to your grade too. If they stay in
classroom that make they feel bad, feel cramped and make they frustrate so it can make they
not concentrate and focus in the lesson. And if they do not understand in the lesson they cannot
do test too. OR if they have some problem with some student in classroom it can make they
worry about them. Maybe it will not affect to their test result but it can affect to their responsibility
and their behavior. And 4 of them like classroom that bright a bit more than medium because if
classroom is dim it will make they feel sleepy and another one like classroom that have dim
light. Sometime they think that they test result not depend on classroom environment only but it
depend on teacher teaching and depend in their-self too.

Conclusion
Classroom is the place that all of students will stay in during all they that they study in
school so classroom is the place that have most impact or affect to their school life and their
grade performance. I am doing this research because I want to know how students feel and how

they act when they stay in classroom because education in Thailand have many and different
format. In some school that we are changing classroom in each subject so we have to see many
different in any classroom. For example in the classroom that have so bright light, dark or dim
light, the class that arrange table in groups, in pairs, in lines, and in U-shape. In some school
that students have their own classroom and have teacher rotate so they will see only one
environment in the classroom so want to know which one is better.
