Edgewood has three locations, two offices in San Francisco and one office in San Carlos,
California. The non profit organization has a website under a link
http://www.edgewood.org/index.html. Edgewood in San Carlos is the non-profit organization
Rahel contacted in her community. The person who would supervise Rahel during her service is
Mary Therese A. Tamayo, Education and Enrichment Manager, for the Transition Age Youth
Program, FSP. Ms. Tamayos email address is MTamayo@edgewood.org, and her phone
number is 650-832-6900. Edgewood Center for Children and Families serve communities
providing support for every child no matter their situation or background. They teach the
children how to work with others and have success in school by assisting them to overcome their
challenges. Edgewoods mission is promoting the behavioral health of children, youth and
families and support a positive transition to adulthood. The caregivers in Edgewood need
assistance learning in how technology can make their job easier as they serve the children in the
center. Edgewood Center site B has a need of assisting transition youth in basic computer skills
and online job searching skills. The role of the service learner is assisting Edgewood in utilizing
technology to become more efficient and learn best practices.
Service learner Rahel Tilahun will be serving Edgewood. The location of the student is Redwood
City, California. The student can be contacted with phone number 650-713-1080, and email
rtilahun@csumb.edu. Rahel Tilahun is from California State University Monterey Bay, senior
Computer Science and Information System student. The knowledge and experience acquired
from the study major includes Database design, computer networks and Internet programming.
The Education and Enrichment Manager, Mary Therese A. Tamayo will be supervising the
service learner. The arrangement is done for the service learner to drive to the San Bruno
location which is 40 to 45 minute drive depending on the traffic. The service learner would give
service twice a week for 1 and half hours.
Edgewood Center for Children and Families is working to transform lives and restore hope, by
working with families and transition youth. Serving a non-profit organization with a mission of
giving hopes is going to be a good opportunity for the service learner to learn about other
families and the experience of children. Rahel learned from her meeting with the program
manager at Edgewood that the kids they are serving are mostly from foster care, they dont have
experience living in a traditional family environment. Children of today are the foundation of the
next generation, they can be from foster care, from any kind of challenging situation but they
have to get the opportunity to be equipped with tools to transition to youth and then adulthood
and lead happy lives. The wholeness of each of us is through serving, we have to serve the youth
