Experimental Study is a another peer reviewed journal that was very useful when studying
listening strategies in L1 learning. This study dove into listening strategies in L1 and how it
related to L2 listening comprehension. Delivery in a students L1 does have an effect on L2
learning. There were five listening strategies implemented to use throughout this study: guessing,
making inferences, identifying topics, repetition, and note-taking. One classroom was taught
with these strategies in their L1 and one classroom was not taught these strategies in their L1
which effected L2 comprehension.

L2 languages saw greater development with the lesson given.
10.How to Reach and Teach English Language Learners by Rachel Syrja is a book that I have
used between both ESL classes. Syrja gives great strategies and resources to use in an ELL
classroom. It provides resources across all content areas and how we can integrate different
models in the classroom. All tools that are suggested are research based proven to be successful
with ESL students. This book is highly recommended to access points that may be challenging
for ESL learners in their classrooms.

video by Judy Thompson. Judy is an expert in spoken English. Newcomers are embarrassed
about their accents and grammar mistakes and native speakers are unaware that the way they
speak makes it extremely difficult for non-native speakers to understand them. This stood out to
me the most. There are secrets that target native speakers, ELL learners and everyone around us.
12.Dreams Beyond Labels: Case Studies of Four English Language Learners Who are Beating
the Odds. This resource is a case study of four learners and the factors that help them close the

15.Language Teaching Methods: Audio-Lingual Method is a video based on English language
teaching. In this video Michael Jerald plays the role of two characters a woman and a man (sales
person role) to demonstrate the English language. He requires learners to repeat some of the lines
that were said in the role playing activity. Michael corrects learners who need extra phrasing with
their sentences. It is interesting to see this approach used with adults.

LINGUISTICALLY, AND PSYCHOLOGICALLY RESPONSIVE TEACHING is a study based on
difficulties that ELL students might face. There were 20 volunteer students enrolled in a

face when writing.

book that looks at the CPH more closely. Students benefit more from learning earlier in life. Age
matters with learning a new language. The book digs into learners that are given the opportunity
to learn at a young age and learners that are not. There are studies all throughout the book that
provide research based evidence to support the CPH.

Learners. Benny Lewis decided to try to learn a second language and realized it was not as easy

Final Resource Catalog

as he thought. He decided by changing his motivation and the way he approached the second
language was a big underlying factor in acquiring the language. Motivation is the biggest
problem, we need to realize WHY we are learning the language and the importance of it.
20.Teaching English pronunciation to ESL students is an article that looks at important aspects of
pronunciation in the ESL classroom. The article also mentions role playing and how it is a form
of cultural identity and helps with pronunciation. It is not difficult to develop activities for
pronunciation but it is sometimes overlooked by the teacher. Pronunciation is important when
someone needs to be understood.
