Exam Outline

Section A: Knowledge and Understanding of Functions [38 marks]

Multiple Choice [5 marks]
Short Answer [10 marks]
Full Response [23 marks]
This section covers all of the units in the course. The questions test general knowledge and basic ideas from the
course. This section should not take you longer than 30 min to complete. You do not have to show any work
for the multiple choice or short answer sections but do need to show full solutions for the full response section.
Examples:

Find domain and range of a function given as a graph

Convert radians to degrees
Which of the graphs below is NOT a function?
Find the inverse of the function given.
Find f(2)+f(3) for a given function f(x).
Is this sequence arithmetic or geometric?
Is this function periodic?
What is the exact value of COS 60?

Section B: Transformations of Functions [26 marks]

Full Response [26 marks]
In this section you will be dealing with transformations of ALL of the types of functions that we have studied.
Exponential, Absolute Value, Quadratic, Cubic, Root, Reciprocal, Linear, and Sinusoidal
Examples:

Find the equation of graphs given to you.

Graph the transformation of a function.
List the transformations that have occurred to a function.

Section C: Applications of Functions [42 marks]

Full Response [39 marks]
In this section you will be problem solving with all of the tools you have gathered throughout the course.
These questions require full solutions.
Examples:

Exponential growth and decay (doubling time, half life, compound interest)
Trigonometry (2D or 3D trig sine law, cosine law, SOHCAHTOA)
Sinusoidal (Ferris Wheel, Bike Tire)
Sequences and Series (seats in the theatre/stones in the patio)
Annutities (FV, PV, R)
