BLINDING CONCRETE CASTING

1.0

Purpose
This method statement covers the casting of blinding concrete described in
Section 03300 of the contract specification.

2.0

Scope
This method statement defines the responsibilities and describes the procedure
to be implemented during casting of blinding concrete for Parcels 601, 602, 603,
225, 805 and 800 series to conform to the approved shop drawings, contract
specification and other related standards.

3.0

Responsibilities
3.1

The Site Engineer shall be responsible for the implementation of the work
in accordance with this method statement and their responsibilities shall
be, but not limited, to the following:
3.1.1 Preparation of work schedule and casting drawing/plan.
3.1.2 Booking and ordering of only approved concrete mix and
preparation of required tools and equipment.
3.1.3 Designating skilled workers.
3.1.4 Supervising the work to ensure the work is performed properly in
accordance with this method statement and related specification of
the contract document.

3.2

The surveyor shall be responsible for setting out areas and levels for the
blinding concrete and survey check during casting.

3.3

The Site Engineer and Quality Control Engineer shall continuously monitor
all activities related to the work if implemented in accordance with this
method statement.

4.0

Materials
4.1

Concrete shall be ordered from approved concrete suppliers and concrete


shall be:
4.1.1 K180 SRC for parcels 601, 602, 603, 225, 805
4.1.2 K250 SRC - for parcels 800 series

5.0

Preparatory works
5.1

A casting drawing/plan showing area for casting and concrete pump


locations shall be prepared and shall be submitted to the Engineers
Representative for approval.

5.2

The sub-grade shall be leveled and compacted and ready to receive the
blinding concrete.

5.3

A coordination meeting shall be held a day before the casting of the


blinding concrete.

6.0

Methodology
6.1

Guide lines and levels as per approved shop drawings shall be provided
by the surveyor.

6.2

Formworks shall be installed to comply with the guideline and levels.

6.3

Concrete pumps shall be located as per casting plan.

6.4

Upon arrival of concrete at site, it shall be checked for temperature and


slump and composite samples shall be taken as per clause 3.19 of

Section III-2/03300 of the contract specification.


6.5

Concrete shall be monitored and programmed such as no interruption on


arrival of concrete truck mixers at site will be encountered.

6.6

Concrete shall be casted continuously to avoid cold joints.

6.7

Casted concrete shall be leveled as per the required elevation and level
shall be regularly checked by the surveyor.

6.8

The casted concrete shall be finished by power floats.

6.9

The freshly casted shall be protected from premature drying as per clause
3.13 of Section III-2/03300 of the contract specification.

7.0

Inspection and Testing


7.1

The concrete blinding works shall be offered for the Engineers


Representatives inspection and approval on the following stages:
7.1.1 Subgrade preparation
7.1.2 Formworks installation prior to casting.

7.2

Engineers Representative to witness fresh concrete checking and


composite sampling, and the compressive strength testing of composite
samples.

8.0

The Site Engineer in coordination with the Safety Officer, shall be ensuring
compliance with project HSE Plan during the implementation of this work which
shall include, but not limited to the following:
8.1

Provision and proper use of safety paraphernalia.

8.2

Maintaining cleanliness at work areas.
