Introduction
For this third bundle I have created a museum that is unlike what most people would
expect. The New York Museum of 21st Century Technology is a museum that focuses not on old
artifacts or landmarks, but on current essentials to society. The museum is split into four
different exhibits: the history of technology, everyday technologies, medical technologies, and
up and coming technologies. These four exhibits will offer visitors an insight into the
technologies around them and learn in a hands-on, interactive environment. I have represented
this museum through five bundle documents. These bundle documents are: a floor plan of the
museums exhibits, a memorandum sent out to the security staff regarding responsibilities and
expectations, a poster announcing the exhibit, a magazine profile introducing the museum, and,
lastly, a website.
When creating this bundle I turned to European Museums as Visual Persuasion: A
Typological Approach to ensure my museum persuaded visitors appropriately. Because society
is so focused around technology today, many have negative opinions on the reliance humans
now have. However, the goal of The New York Museum of 21st Century Technology is to
persuade visitors that technological advancements are a good thing. The authors explain that
museums existence alone is iconic; visitors of a museum go in with expectations that things will
be a certain way. Visitors expect to learn something of importance. If the visitors are expecting
to learn something, they are more likely to go into the museum looking for something to learn;
they come in basically persuading themselves to take something from the information theyre
absorbing.
The authors of this article also explain the five ways a museum persuades visitors.
Museums can be cultural icons, they can be polemic, they can serve as a collective memory,

museums can have an avant garde point of view, and they can simply be visually persuasive as
a whole. My museum serves as a cultural icon as a way to persuade the audience. The New York
Museum of 21st Century Technology epitomizes todays culture and therefor sparks interest
within visitors. Visitors can relate to the artifacts at a personal level. My museum can also be
considered polemic because it shows technology in a positive light. The exhibits are exclusively
one-sided in this fashion.
This class reading was incredibly helpful throughout the process of setting the tone of my
documents and creating an environment that supported my desired thesis for my museum. The
New York Museum of 21st Century Technologies is a new type of museum that utilizes the same
tactics as previous museums. Similar to how technology allows humans to do the same things
they used to in a new and different way, the ideas within European Museums as Visual
Persuasion: A Typological Approach allowed me to take old ideas and make something new
and different with them.

Re: Security Duties and Requirements
Overview
As the opening day of the museum approaches it is vital that all staff members understand the
regulations of this museum and the responsibilities he or she has as a member of our security
team. This memo will briefly go over rules, regulations, and responsibilities so that all security
members will have an idea of what is expected of them before training begins next month. The
security team is broken up into three subgroups:
1. Entry gate security
2. Exhibit security
3. Gift shop security
I will also briefly go over the appropriate attitude and behaviors our security team should abide
by at all times.
Entry Gate Security

The main entrance of the museum will be equipped with three body scanners.

The responsibilities of security guards working at the entry gate are as follows.
o Ensuring customers remove any metal or electronic items from their person
before entering the body scanner
o Observing the scan results of the body scanner
o Checking all bags visitors desire to bring in to the museum

Forbidden items include: food, beverage, firearms, knives, and explosives.

Exhibit Security

Security team members in charge of exhibits are responsible for ensuring guests of our
museum are safe and acting appropriately at all times

The hands on, interactive artifacts within the museum have potential for creating high
traffic
o Make sure guests do not spend upwards of five minutes utilizing one hands on
exhibit if a line is forming.

If a guest is causing an issue or putting other guests in harms way it is the responsibility
of the security staff to remove said guest from the premises.

Gift Shop Security

Approximately 2 security guards will be stationed at the gift shop per shift.

Gift shop security is responsible for making sure no customers choose to shop lift or in
any way damage merchandise.

Appropriate Security Team Behaviors

The number one goal of this museum is to have happy guests.

o All the security measures that are in place are there to keep visitors safe.

It is important that all security staff members understand this.

If you suspect a visitor is doing something they shouldnt do not immediately remove
them
1. Question them about their actions
2. Give them a warning
a. Explain if this continues they will be asked to leave
3. Remove the disruptive guest from the premises

Under no circumstances should aggression or violence be used on a guest!!!

In Conclusion
Each and every one of you selected for this job has exceptional qualifications; The New York
Museum of 21st Century Technology is lucky to have you all. The specifics of each individual
security task will be thoroughly gone over next month when training begins.
