PatchWizardDescription
PatchWizardisautilitythatcomesinstalledaspartoftheEBusinessSuiteproductsandcanbeaccessedviaOracleApplications
Manager.ThisutilitycomparesthepatchesyouhavealreadyappliedagainstalistofallrecommendedOracleEBusinessSuite
(EBS)patches.

RecommendedpatchescanincludehighprioritypatchesorpatchesthatupdateEBSproductstoanewcodelevel,suchas
ReleaseUpdatePacks(RUPs),ProductFamilyRUPs,andpreupgradepatches.

NotethatPatchWizardwillnotapplythepatchesbutwillenableyoutodoanimpactanalysispriortoapplyingthem.Patch
WizardisautilityforEBusinessSuitepatches,andnotforpatchesofthetechnologystackcomponents(RDBMS,Forms,etc).

Howitworks
PatchWizardisaninterfacethatallowsyoutosetyourPatchWizardexecutionpreferences,analyzeandcomparepatches
currentlyappliedinyourinstancetothepatchesincludedintheRecommendedPatchList,performanimpactanalysis,andeasily
downloadthepatchesyoudecidetoapply.

Whenconductingtheanalysis,thePatchWizardretrievescurrentpatchinformationdirectlyfromtheMyOracleSupport(formerly
Metalink),andcomparesthislistwiththepatchesyoualreadyhaveinstalledinyoursystem.Thefinalreportwillprovidean
outputofrecommendedEBSpatchesandnewcodelevelpatchesforyourversionandtheimpactofinstallingthem.Youcanalso
specifyotherpatchesforwhichyouwantPatchWizardtoperformanimpactanalysis.

AccessingthePatchWizardForms
1. LoginusingauserthathasSystemAdministratorPrivileges
2. SelecttheSystemAdministratorresponsibility
3. ChooseDashboardoptionunderOracleApplicationsManager.Alternatively,youcanchoosethePatchingandUtilities
optionundertheOAMmenu.
4. Fromthedropdownlistonthetoprightcorner,selectPatchWizard,andclicktheGobutton.

InitialConfiguration
Patchwizardrequiresaverysimpleinitialsetupthatisdescribedhere.
1. OnceinthePatchWizardmainform,thefirstsectionyouwillfindisthePatchWizardTasks,withfourtasks.Thefirsttask
inthelistiscalledPatchWizardPreferences.Clickontheiconacrossthistask.

2. SetthevalueforStagingDirectory.Thisistogoingtobetheworkingdirectoryforthisutility.PatchWizardwillusethe
pathdefinedhereastheworkarea.
3. SettheMyOracleSupport(MOS)credentials.ThecredentialsareneededsothatPatchWizardcanconnecttotheMOS
portaltoretrievethecurrentpatchinformation.
Tosetthecredentials,clickontheMetalinkCredentialslinkinthepreferencesform.Thiswillopenanewformtoentera
validSupportportaluser,passwordandemailaddress.IfyourserverusesproxyservertoconnecttotheInternet,enter
theproxyinformation.

CreatingFilters
PatchWizardanalyzestwodifferenttypesofpatcheswithindesiredEBusinessSuiteproducts:
1. RecommendedPatches:ThesearepatchesthatfixissuesandhavebeenidentifiedashighprioritypatchesbyOracle.You
arestronglyrecommendedtoapplythem.
2. NewCodeLevels:Thesearepatchesthatdelivernewfunctionalityandbringtheproductcodetothelatestrelease.
PatchWizardallowsyoucreatefilterswhereyoucanselectwhatproductsandwhattypeofpatchesyouwanttoanalyze.The
systemcomeswiththreepredefinedfiltersbutyouhavetheoptiontocreateyourownfiltersaswell.Tocreatefiltersconduct
thefollowingactions:
1. UnderthePatchWizardTaskssection,selectthesecondtask,DefinePatchFilters.
2. ClickonCreateNewbutton.
3. Enteranameanddescriptionforthefilter.
Note:Ithasbeenreportedthatfilterswithsinglequotes/apostrophesinthenamecauseawarning"Nocheckboxwas
selectedinthePatchFilter"duringtheCreateRecommendationprocess.Asaresult,norecommendationsaremade.
Thesameerrorwasfoundwhenusingabackslash(\)inthefiltername.ItwasfoundthroughBug9460334that
thiscurrentlyalimitationduetotheimpactofthecodechangesrequired.Asaworkaround,pleasedefine
filternameswithoutsinglequotes/apostrophesandbackslahes.
4. Markthecheckboxesforoneormoreproductfamiliesyouwanttoincludeintheanalysis.Foreachproductfamily,you
canchoosetoanalyzeforrecommendedpatchesornewcodelevels,orboth.

TheRegisterFlaggedFilestoolisaWebbasedutiliyinOracleApplicationsManager,whichcanbeaccessedfromtheOAM
PatchingandUtilitiesmenu.ChoosetheRegisterFlaggedFilesoptionfromthedropdownlistinthetoprighthandcorner.

1. UnderPatchWizardTasks,selectthethirdtask,Recommend/AnalyzePatches.
2. IntheOptionssection,chooseCreateRecommendation.

3. OptionallymarkthecheckboxforUploadpatchinformationbundlebeforeanalyzingpatches.Thiswouldletpatchwizard
knowthatyouwanttodownloadthelatestversionofthepatchlist(Infobundlefile)availableinMyOracleSupport.Note
thatyoumustdownloadtheInfobundlefilethefirsttimeyouexecutethisprocess,ormanuallyputtheInfobundlefilein
thestagingdirectorypriortothefirstexecution.ThischeckboxdoesnotexistinR12(seethenextsection).

InR12,theUploadpatchinformationbundlebeforeanalyzingpatchescheckboxdoesnotexist,andthelatestInfobundleis
alwaysdownloadedautomaticallywhensubmittingthecreaterecommendationprocessforafilter(giventheMyOracleSupport

Missingmeansthatthereareprerequisitecodelevelpatchesthathavenotbeenappliedyet.
Reviewthelistofrecommendations,andifyouwanttodoanimpactanalysisforanyofthepatches,clickontheiconunderthe
Impactcolumn,inthesamerowforthepatchinconcern.

PrerequisitePatches
PatchWizardidentifiesthehardprerequisitepatchesforthepatchesintheresultspage.Softprerequisites,whichmaybe
conditionallyrequiredbasedonyourinstanceorfunctionalityused,arenotlisted.

R11i:PatchWizardidentifiesthefirstlevelprerequisitepatchesthathavenotbeenapplied(TotalPreReqscolumn).
Prerequisitesofprerequisitesarenotlisted.However,ifanalysisofpatchAidentifiedpatchBasitsprerequisite,andnowyou

AnalyzeSpecificPatches
TheAnalyzeSpecificPatchesoptionintheRecommend/AnalyzePatchesPageallowsyoutospecifyanypatch(es)forwhichyou
wanttorunapatchimpactanalysis.Oncesubmitted,theprocesscanbeviewedbyclickingtheJobStatusbuttoninthemain
page.Whencomplete,gototheResultssectioninthemainPatchWizardpagetofindtheresults(thespecifiedpatchnumbers
willbedisplayed)andclickontheDetailsicon.
Duringthisprocess,thespecifiedpatchesaredownloadedtothestagingdirectory.InR11i,theunappliedprerequisitepatches
aredownloadedaswell.IfMyOracleSupportcredentialsarenotsetinthepreferencesorthepatchisapasswordcontrolled
patch,thepatchneedstobeplacedinthestagingdirectorymanuallybeforerunningtheprocess.Ifyouareon12.1.2,seethe
