UNIT
This lesson plan is part of a unit covering phonetic and word analysis in order to provide
students skills necessary to improve their ability to decode words. Reading requires
comprehension of words and its meaning as described in the TN English Learning Arts
standard RF.3.3.
LESSON OBJECTIVE
Content Learning Goals and Objectives
1. Given 10 prefixes and 10 suffixes students will be able to add the correct prefix
and suffix to the words provided and use the newly created word in a correct
sentence with 90% accuracy.
2. Given 10 prefixes and 10 suffixes, the student will research their meaning and use
of each prefix and suffix with 100% accuracy.
3. Given a computer student will use Audioboom to create a 5 minute podcast where
they verbally communicate their understanding of the assigned prefixes and
suffixes.
4. Given a computer, students will create a 10 slide Prezi PowerPoint as a visual
representation of the learned prefixes and suffixes.
Student Participation
The goal of this lesson is for students to demonstrate a clear understanding of prefixes
and suffixes. Upon completion, students will provide a visual example by creating their
own podcast and Prezi PowerPoint presentation. Students will also receive a 10 question
multiple choice quiz over lessons learned.
