The Grapevine is to keep everyone informed on the happenings of our Parish

Community

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: We had a very successful pancake breakfast on June


19th. We are planning our Padre night for September 11, at Sturgeon Heights Hall so
that Holy Rosary & St. Francis Xavier may also attend. We are willing to partner
with the building fundraising committee for this. The Knights will lead rosary on the
last Sunday June 26th. I wrote to all the Senators of Alberta to voice my objection to
bill C-14, assister dying bill, only two responded and only one spoke against, Betty
Unger. If you can think of any young men between 18-35 years, that you think
might be candidates for priestly vocations please let me or Father know, then we
can forward their names to our Archbishop.
CATHOLIC WOMENS LEAGUE: We have donated to our charities this month, The
Youth Emergency Shelter and Catholic Missions, and have sponsored a child for the
Catholic Youth camp in Grimshaw. Fay and Sandy , our CWL members, presented
the Grade 9 class with Farewell crosses last Friday. We do not have any meetings
during the summer, we shall begin on September12th. If any ladies are interested
to join, you are very welcome.
FINANCE COMMITTEE: At our last meeting, we reviewed insurance coverage on
the gathering centre. Reviewed details on the $320,000 loan. Our charity report is
completed and filed for 2015. Reviewed direct deposit program, reviewed pledge
cards and brochure. Loans from parish members is being encouraged, if you need
any information see Denise or Laurie. Insurance coverage on the existing Church to
be reviewed.
MAINTENANCE REPORT: We need to do landscaping at the south side of the
rectory, just waiting to coordinate for Bobcat. Moved cement pads needed for
sidewalk, need to trim the largest one. We cleaned the eaves trough down spouts.
Ordered battery cover for Fathers mic. Still need to coordinate time to clean the
sacristy.
BUILDING COMMITTEE: The first stage of the building is now done. 37 piles have
been set, due to the instability of the ground, the piles had to be down 22 ft. to
ensure a proper base for the addition. The footing have been poured, however due
to the rains, work has been delayed until they are able to pump the water out and
continue. The contractor is staying on top of that and he is as anxious as we are to
see more progress. The work has been inspected and the first drawdown has been
paid, minus 10% holdback.
ST. STEPHENS SCHOOL: During May our school fundraised over $8000 for Fort
McMurray and over $3000 in June for Jump Rope for Heart. June 6 th we had Year end

Mass. June 16th. St. Stephens Award Night. Madeleine Polochuk and Don & Laurette
Gourlay were nominated as Faith Families of the Year. June 17 th was Grade 9
Farewell, June 21, Aboriginal Day, June 22, Kindergarten Grad. Sandy MacLeod is
transferring to Glenmary next year. Amy Smart & Anita Portsmouth are leaving at
the end of June. Kristy Peterson has taken a position in Grande Prairie for the next
year. We will be training for altar servers in the fall. 25 kids are registered for
Kindergarten, we have a waiting list.
YOUTH GROUP: We had our final gathering, June 21st at the bowling alley, we had
26 kids come to enjoy our event. The bottle drive has been postponed until the fall.
We had an item in the on line auction, it went for a nice price and we received a
$500 donation for the tables and chairs that we fundraising for the new addition.
FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE: We are doing an online action through Facebook, it
is very successful. We have 3 items that are done, 4 hr. Cruise of Sturgeon Lake on
a pontoon boat, $480. X 2, Freezer Baking Package $146. X 2, Complete Car
Detailing 2 x 170, and the Youth Group beach mat, $40 with a $500 donation.
We have a painting package, and 30 jars of canning that were done Saturday
afternoon, and we have a few items that will be done on the 28 th of June. If anyone
wants to put a bid please see Denise after Mass and I will enter it. These are the
items left to bid on:
Electric Toothbrush, Canada Leather bag, 5- doz Cinnamon buns, 2 hrs. lawn
mowing,
Believe Wood sign, 2 knitted afghans, 4 doz homemade buns, 50 lbs. new
potatoes,
3 hrs. of typing, 4 hrs. of babysitting.
We are also organizing a fun event, within the town limits, open to everyone in the
community.
On July 10th come on to the fish pond, have a hot dog and take part in the fun.
There will be a fishing derby where you get to fish for free (no license required) and
the size of the fish will be recorded. The winners of different categories will win a
prize. With all the games being organized for the kids in conjunction with the
derby we are hoping that everyone will find this family event to be fun filled.
Please bring your own fishing rod, tackle and lawn chairs.
Hot dogs will be served from 12-1 p.m. Derby will be from 1-3 p.m.
PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL:
The Parish Council have decided to change the Mass times on Tuesday and
Thursday to 9:00 a.m., for security reasons we ask that people commit to attending
Mass on those days, Bernie will be in the back with a calendar for you to sign up.
Confessions will be heard half an hour before Mass on Friday and Sunday, and 15
minutes before Mass
at St. Francis Xavier and Holy Rosary.

There will be a fee charged by the Choir for funerals and marriages.
Thank You to the Youth Group and Children Liturgy leaders and volunteers, they are
taking a summer break and will resume in the Fall. Keep up the good work.
