Q Staff Technology Use Guidelines Internet Usage and E-Mail ‘+All staff members must have a signed copy of the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) on fle withthe District Information Services and Media Office, This Includes substitute teachers, NSSED employees, independent Contractors, and student teachers. E-mail addresses will be issued to permanent siaff when the signed policy has been returned to DIMS. + Staff members must supervise student use of computers at all times. All computers used by students must have the screens clearly visible by the teacher. Students in grades K-5 may only search within Nettrekker, Destiny,and TCR/Newsbank and search engines should not be inciuded in launcher pages or as default pages. Middle school teachers should consult with their principals to determine acceptable Internet usage. + Use of the internet is restricted to sites related to curricular and educational topics. + Use of new Internet technologies, including wikis and blogs, must be approved by the Director of Technology and/or Network Administrator before being implemented. This is to protect children and staff until the department can ensure safety and security * Staff must use caution when posting information and pictures to the Internet. Children should never be identified by last name, + District e-mail should not be used to send or forward information unrelated to school business, including inappropriate or potentially libelous material Please remember that the user signature and school name are included (on all e-mail sent outside the district + Staff members are provided with Communigate email for district business. Iti important to delete mail or store it on the local computer once itis read to ensure optimal functioning of the email server. Please contact the building technology facilitator or DIMS with email questions, *+ Teachers anc students must post District work only on the District web- hosting server. Staff may not purchase separate domains without express written permission from the Network Administrator Software: + DIMS and buiding IMC teachers have a database of all allowable, licensed software. No other software may be installed without permission {rom the building technology facilitator and IMC teacher. Ifa system must be restored, the building authorized disk image will be used. + No software may be downloaded from the Internet onto district computers, This specifically prohibits file swapping services and Instant Messaging systems other than Apple's iChat. Network and General Computer Usage: + Network passwords should be closely guarded and not shared with others, Passwords should never be posted in a visible location or shared with students and other staff members. Data can be seriously compromised when passwerds are shared + Users must be certain to log off the network at night. Unattended ‘computers logged onto the network represent a potentially serious security + Streaming services, including non-educational video and music, may not be used. These services, including on-line radio channels, bring the network to a standstill + Software may not be installed on the network server without the express writen consent of the District Network Administrator. + ‘All important files should be backed up to the network to avoid overwrite when new images are installed. This includes e-mail preferences and in- box messages. + Alldistrict computers must have a security system installed, The current software is DeepFreeze. + Personal computers can be installed on the district network only with the express written consent of the District Network Administrator. They must have current antivirus software installed and are not covered by district insurance.
