Olyroos Vs Chile June 27/29

Territorians will have the opportunity to see an historic sporting event in Darwin later this month
with the NT Government and Football Federation Australia today formally announcing the
Territory’s first international football series.

Sports Minister Matthew Bonson said Australian Olympic football team, the Olyroos, will play
Chile in a two-match series on 27 and 29 June - the first time an international football series has
ever been staged in the Territory.

“Sport is an important part of our great lifestyle and the Territory Government is working hard to
make it even better,” Mr Bonson said. “We contributed nearly $40 000 to help deliver this great
event for Territory families.

“And I hope Territory football lovers get behind this international match and get out there to
support the Olyroos.”

The NT Government announced last month that the Olyroos will conduct a week-long pre-
Olympics training camp in the Top-End for acclimatisation prior to the Beijing Olympics.

The camp will run from June 20 to July 5, and consist of 33 players and 10 support staff to focus
on increasing the fitness of the squad in the lead up to the Beijing Olympics.

“This will be the last chance for players to make a case for selection in the final squad of 18 that
will head to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, to be announced next month,” Mr Bonson said.

The games, to be held at the Darwin Football Stadium, Larrakia Park, Marrara, and will be
played at 7pm on Friday June 27 and 5pm on Sunday June 29.
