Knox College Department of Theatre and Dance is seeking actors for the Fall Term production of …

E U R I P I D E S’

MEDEA
MEDEA tells the story of the scorn and revenge of a woman betrayed by her husband. Medea left her home
and father for Jason’s love, yet he – after she has borne him two children – forsakes her by betrothing himself to
Glauce, the daughter of Creon, King of Corinth. Creon banishes Medea out of fear that jealousy may lead her to
harm him and his family. He mistakenly, however, grants her a one-day delay from exile, which leads to his
and Jason’s undoing. The play exposes the suffering and sensitive nature of injured love between the sexes,
passing from one stage to another in a culmination of vengeance and power.

***THIS PRODUCTION WILL BE STAGED IN MODERN DRESS WITH A REALISTIC APPROACH TO CHARACTER AND SETTING.

Audition Date/Location/Time:
• Date: Monday, September 13, 2010
 Callbacks will be conducted the following evening – Tues., September 14th
• Where: Auditions will be held in Harbach Theatre, CFA.
• Time: 7:00 – 10:00pm

Preparation:
• Actors should plan to perform a 2–3 minute monologue from the classical theatre canon (e.g.,
Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides).
o If you choose not to prepare a memorized monologue, you may perform a cold reading from
the script (made available upon request).
• Callbacks will include a series of cold readings from the script. Please check the callboard
promptly on Tuesday morning to see if you are called back for role consideration.
