Le -page 23 INTRODUCTION 70-1000 70-1000 E/PROM PROGRAMMER GENERAL The 70-1000 programmer is a portable programmer designed for use with the Midland SYN-TECH line of Frequency Synthesized FM Transceivers, capable of programming RX/TX channel frequencies, channel scanning se- quence and optional functions. The 70-1000 programmer can read the contents of an E/PROM module and transfer it to another E/PROM module. The 70-1000 programmer has a TTL level parallel printer interface, which allows print out of the contents of an E/PROM module to the optional 70-1300 printer. SPECIFICATIONS: Programmable E/PROM Module Type 2-273 Module Display Hexadecimal 7-segment LEDs, 13 digits and 7 LEDs for status indicator Key Board 8 control keys and 16 data keys RAM Capacity 2K bytes Power requirement 100V AC - 240V AC 50/60Hz (Withstand voltage; 1.5 kV/1 min.) Printer interface TTL level parallel interface Operating Temperature Range 0°c - 40°C Operating Humidity Range 90% 35°C (non-condensing) Dimensions (approx. ) W: 210 mm (8.3 in) D: 280 mm (11.0 in) H: 65 mm (2.6 in) Weight (approx.) 1.9 Kg (4.2 1b) RELATED MANUALS 1. Refer to Operator's Manual for Model 70-1100/1101 (E/PROM Eraser) for detailed erasing instructions. 2. Refer to Operator's Manual for Model 70-1300 (Printer) for detailed printer instructions. 3. Refer to Operator's Manual for Model 70-1000 (E/Prom Programmer) for detailed programming instructions. THEORY OF OPERATION 70-1000 15 Power Supply The AC input voltage is rectified by the bridge rectifier D36. Q28 and related components provide +11 volts to actuate ICl6 IC16, a pulse-width modulated controller, incorporates a 30KHz oscillator which controls Q27, in turn applying a pulse-width modulated square wave to the primary inputs 1 and 2 of the transformer T211. The secondary 5VDC output is used to power the logic circuitry for the 70-1000. TC15 senses the 5V output and supplies, through the optical isolator PC201, an error signal to IC16. This error signal causes IC16 to vary the pulse width of the signal driving Q27 so as to maintain a constant 5V out- put from T211. The other secondary outputs, +10V for IC15 and C14, and +32V for #/PROM programming, are automatically regulated since their output is also dependent on the output of Q27. Turn-on-Reset At unit powerup a reset pulse is generated for the Central Pro- cessing Unit (CPU) IC7 through C142 and Q26. This pulse also serves to reset the Keyboard-Display Controller IC8. CPU and Program ROM The CPU, IC7, is a 6802 type microprocessor incorporating 128 bytes of on-board RAM (Random Access Memory). The CPU also in- cludes a clock oscillator whose frequency is determined by the 4Miiz crystal X211. The oscillator output is internally divided to give a IMHz output from Pin 37 for use by I¢8. The CPU IC7 controls all functions of the 70-1000 except for keyboard and display control, which is handled by C8, and E/PROM module in- terface, done by IC9. The actual program controlling the CPU is contained in IC4, a 2732 type E/PROM having a capacity of 4K bytes. . Buffer RAM IC3 is a buffer RAM with a capacity of 2K bytes, and serves to store all E/PROM module programming data prior to the WRITE oper- ation when the data is actually programmed in the E/PROM. C3 also stores data input from an E/PROM module during a COPY oper- ation. E/PROM Module Interface IC9 is a Universal Peripheral Interface device which controls the interface of signals to the E/PROM module for all operations. PAO-PA7 are input/output lines which carry data to and from the E/PROM module. PBO-PB5 carry /PROM address data, PB6 carries the Chip Enable signal and P37 the Output Enable signal for the E/PROM module. Address data to the E/PROM module is latched by the strobe pulse output from ICl0 Pin 3. IC14 provides a closely regulated 5.25V (Vee) for E/PROM module operation. IC13 provides the E/PROM programming voltage Vpp which is +5V during the read operation and 425V for writing. THEORY OF OPERATION 70-1000 6. Keyboard-Display Keyboard entry and display control is carried out by IC8. This IC controls all LED lamps and displays except the PRINT lamp, which is driven by the printer interface. Segment control of the LED displays and lamps is output at AO-A3 and BO-B3. Digit select outputs are SLO-SL3 and are decoded by I1C6 and IC7 to con- trol the individual driver transistors Q135-Q148. Inputs from the keyboard (RLO-RL7) are constantly scanned to detect key clo- sures. 7. Printer Interface ICl latches data from the CPU data bus to be fed to the optional printer. As each byte of data is latched and ready for trans- mission, a strobe pulse is sent to the printer and an acknowledge signal is returned from the printer if it is ready to accept data. Make sure that the cable between main board and key board/display unit is connected. iy Fold Out Connect a DC voltmeter between 1P226 (ground) and TP221 (+5V). Turn the power on and adjust R124 for 5 volts. Vee for E/PROM module Connect the DC voltmeter between TP217 (ground) and TP218 (Vec) and turn the power on. Then insert an E/PROM module into the programmer adaptor. Depress the keys "FUNCTION", "COPY", "FUNCTION' and "WRITE" in that order. After these operations, read’the volt- age at TP218 and adjust R74 for 5.2 to 5.3 volts. Vpp for E/PROM module Connect the DC voltmeter between TP217 (ground) and TP216 (Vpp) and turn the power on, Then insert an E/PROM module into the adaptor and depress the keys "FUNCTION", "COPY", "FUNCTION" and "WRITE" in that order. After these operations, adjust R62 for 25 Volts by observing the voltage at TP216. a 8 (Neasuring condition; AC supply voltage 115 volts) TRANSISTORS REF.
