Rep.

Ackerman Endorses DA Rice for Attorney General

Queens-Nassau Democratic Congressman
chooses Kathleen Rice out of crowded primary field,
bolstering Nassau DA’s outer borough support

NEW YORK, NY (Sept. 6, 2010) – With just over a week remaining in the Democratic primary
race for attorney general, Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice has picked up a
key endorsement, with 14-term U.S. Representative Gary Ackerman announcing that he is
supporting the Democratic DA for the post. Rep. Ackerman’s district extends from Northeast
Queens to Northern Nassau County, representing a crucial New York City outer borough-
suburban battleground in the primary for attorney general.

“District Attorney Rice is experienced, she has bold ideas, and there’s no doubt in my mind
that she’s the best candidate to lead the attorney general’s office,” said Rep. Ackerman (D-
NY5). “She’s been aggressive in going after cyber predators, corrupt politicians, and those who
defraud consumers. She’s been innovative in dealing with domestic abuse, drug treatment
alternatives to jail and rooting out waste and fraud in government. She’s got experience, she’s
tough and she’s progressive, and she’s our party’s best candidate for attorney general.”

“Rep. Ackerman is a leader for his district and I’m proud to have him on my team,” said District
Attorney Rice. “This race could very well be decided in areas of Queens and Nassau Counties
and the addition of Rep. Ackerman to my team cements the fact that nobody is running stronger
in the outer boroughs than I am. I’ve got a bold agenda for how to protect New York families
and Rep. Ackerman just pushed us one step closer to making our progressive and tough vision
for this office a reality.”
