Paraphrasing & Summarizing

Uncle Sam Speaketh with Forked Tongue

US President wants to change the laws in USA to make energy companies responsible
for cleanup costs of the accidents caused by them, yet asks India to pass laws to limit the
compensation to US $540 million in case of accidents, which have more severe impact, caused
by American nuclear companies in India.

The US Secretary of States has signalled Pakistan that they will face serious trouble if the
recent bomb scare in Time Square has traces to Pakistani agencies. But when the Mumbai attack
happened, USA asked India to show restraint and hold discussions with Pakistan, even though
there were evident links to Pakistan.

Also India had shown spinelessness by backing off from talks with Iran regarding
various energy deals, in an effort to cozy upto the USA. This is more alarming when considering
how most other countries have withstood USA’s pressure and signed gainful agreements with
Iran. By giving up the talks with Iran, we also lost a chance of saving on foreign exchange and
chance of restraining influence on some militant elements that are regularly troubling India.

It seems India is unconscious about the lesson that those who forget history are destined
to have it repeated. USA was supporting Iraq against Iran and when there was a conflict of
interest arouse between the two, USA attacked Iraq. Same was the fate of Afghanistan. Also
USA is maintaining a trade embargo against communist Cuba, while having biggest trade
relationship with China, the biggest communist regime.

The last time India stood up against USA was in 1971, when our then Prime Minister,
Indira Gandhi refused to comply with USA and took fight with Pakistan. At that time, USA had
even sent its seventh fleet to support Pakistan. So do we still need to comply with the
requirements of USA?
