Warehousing Development & Regulation Act 2008

ƒ Setting up a Warehousing Development and

Regulatory Authority for implementing the
provisions of the Act to deal with all matters
pertaining to accreditation agency for certifying
the warehouses, registration of warehouses and
warehousemen. The duties, powers and functions
of the Authority have also been spelt out in the
draft bill.
Advantages of the Bill.
It is expected that the system of Negotiable Warehouse
Receipt would result in large benefits both at macro as well
as micro level viz:
ƒ increase liquidity in rural areas

ƒ encourage scientific warehousing of goods

ƒ lower cost of financing

ƒ shorter and more efficient supply chains

ƒ enhanced rewards for grading and quality

ƒ better price risk management

ƒ this would in turn result in higher returns to farmers and

better services to consumers.
