CLE Reflections (Name below)

The topic that i have chosen is "Introduction to Service-Learning".

Through this topic, i have learnt that there are three types of service-

learning. The first volunteerism, second balanced service and learning

and experiential learning. What this topic has incultivated into me is

that a balanced service with learning is always the best type to choose

from. As my Research Education Project is also Research Education

Service Learning (RESL). This topic at the start of the year has

impacted my RE project most fruitfully, developing and engaging my

mind, heart and hands. I have learnt that the ultilization of Service-

Learning not only deepens the understanding of service but makes

learning meaningful and fun as well. Through the Principle of

Reciprocity, I have learnt that Service Learning does not only benefit

the general but you, as the individual as well. From my Resl, i have

done my part of "service" to the students by tutoring them, and from

this, i have "learnt" and gained experience. I now know the different

methods to reach a pupil and have learnt that from contributing more

service to the students. A new insight that i have gained is that helping

oters is beneficial to everyone. I asked myself : How do we make sure

that we fully learn and appreciate from our service? Well, throughout

the course of my RE project, i have found the answer: It is to do your

service with kindness and respect to the recipient and these values are

learnt and elevated through the Character and Leadership Education

Programme as well. I have always thought that Service Learning was to

help people, and it does not mutually benefit you as well. From this

topic, i learnt that my view was wrong. Through this chapter, I learnt

the importance and the hidden facts of Service Learning. It has really

helped me to develop my sense of thinking and I learnt that i can do a

lot more SL on my own.

My TakeAway; Every person is empowered to effect positive change in

his environment- classroom, family, community, nation, world. And it

will benefit him too!

Thanks for this chapter!
