flexibility and reduce total cost of development

Semantic Partitioning
Semantic Partitioned Object (SPO) as a single point of entry for creation
and easy administration of the semantic partitioned data model
Wizard based partitioning of InfoCubes and DataStore objects along
criteria such as calendar year or region to manage high volume data
across different time zones.

Semantic Partitioned Object

Easy set-up of multiple time-based partitions with a minimum of manual
effort

(SPO)
Partition Partition Partition Reference
Reduces TCO to define and manage scalable data models also when it 1 2 n Structure

comes to re-model the partitions (because only the Reference structure

needs to be changed)
Automated generation of corresponding modeling objects like Data
Transfer Processes (including respective filter criteria depending on the
data target) and Transformations as well as a process chain.
Good Query performance by leveraging SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator
as well as partition pruning when accessing partitioned InfoCubes
Semantic Partitioned Object can be embedded into a MultiProvider Source1 Source2 Source3

Integration of Data Archiving /Near Line Storage to archive SPO

Define partitions by customer coding (Business Add-Ins) e.g. flexibly apply

Performance & Scalability

Accelerated data loads for DataStore Objects and master data

DataStore objects
Partitioning: Support database partitioning by time characteristics
Remodeling for DataStore objects
Performance enhancements:
Activation is changed from single lookups to package fetch of active table
Runtime option “Unique data records only” prevents look-ups during activation,
e.g. in case of initial loads
Performance gain for package fetch (lab results)
Avg. 20 – 40% improvement, Max. improvement measured – 2.5x faster
Varies by data profile (#inserts/updates/deletes) and database platform
New rule-type for Transformations: ‘Read from DataStore’ for an optimized data look-up
to DataStore objects in data bse and Near-Line Storage

Master data
Optimized delta load for master data due to package fetch instead of single look-ups
Optimizes Init-load runtime option “insert only” prevents look-ups during activation

Near-Line Storage (NLS)

Integration into Data Mart Layer (Support of MultiProviders)
Enable NLS in Query properties from BEx Query Designer (not necessary to do this in RSRT anymore)

Continued investments to optimize performance of SAP NetWeaver

BW integrated planning

Already available since EhP 1 for SAP NetWeaver BW 7.0 SP6:

New capabilities in the area of performance optimizations:

Cell checks will be grouped by higher granular selections and the checks applied
on this granularity
Today cell checks are done on cell level. Thus checks semantically bound to rows, columns or
other selections are executed redundantly.

Reduce redundant execution of planning functions

Today planning functions are executed completely whenever they are called, regardless whether the execution
will impact the data or not.
A design time option is introduced to deliver only those cells to a planning function, that are changed since the
last planning function execution.
