What is WAGGGS?

We are the largest international voluntary organization for girls and young women in the
world. We provide non-formal education programmes which develop girls and young
women personally, spiritually, emotionally, physically and socially. Through Girl
Guiding/Girl Scouting, young people meet and work with their peers, with their
communities, and with the international community of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts
around the world.

Who are we?

There are 10 million girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 140 countries, with over 30 countries
working towards membership.
There are more than 100,000 WAGGGS volunteers in the world, most of whom are
leaders of Girl Guides and Girl Scout groups.

What is Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting?

Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting is open to all girls and young women whatever their religion,
ethnic group or background. Anyone who belongs to WAGGGS accepts the Promise and
the Law of the Movement, which is based on spiritual values, personal development and
commitment to helping others.
In some countries, boys and young men belong to WAGGGS. In merged associations the
boys and young men belong to the World Organization of the Scout Movement, and the
girls and young women are members of WAGGGS.
