Dear Keone’ula Faculty, Staff and Parents/Guardians,

In 1989, Congress passed the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA). Under this Act, the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires our school to notify parents, teachers, and employees of
the presence and status of asbestos containing material in our school buildings. The law further requires a
management plan be maintained at the school based upon findings of an initial inspection.

Keone’ula Elementary School was constructed in 2007. Building specification mandate that after 1989,
no Asbestos Containing Building Material (ACBM) is to be used in the construction of schools.
Therefore, Keone’ula Elementary School is ACBM free.

A copy of the management plan is on file in the administration office and is available for review during
regular school hours.

Should you have any questions, please call me at 689-1380.

Sincerely,

Eileen Hirota
Principal
