Meeting Tone and Results‘The street light communication team meeting I attended on July 29 2010 was
very unproductive. There were only two members from the City of Toledo present verses
‘almost eighteen from Toledo Edison which lead to a very one sided meeting. The
members of the Toledo Edison team were unresponsive to the issues presented. They
primarily cited budget constraints and a lack of funding from the company. When asked
hhow the issues would be addressed, I was told they could do little more then they are
doing now. They also stated that it was unfair of me to expect them to have any response
to the issues I brought forward on such short notice. I requested that members of the team
formulate a plan to address these issues and get back with me. In a timely manner, that
‘has yet to happen from cither line shop as of today December 7" 2010.
‘The City of Toledo should place more people on the street light communication
team to provide for a stronger backing on the City of Toledo’s behalf. This team should
also include citizens from block watches and other community organizations to provide
for over sight and accountability in government. The current methods for conducting
these meeting do not promote citizen input and are a detriment to government
‘transparency. In addition, it should be expected that a plan for the issues presented to
Toledo Edison on that date be given to the City of Toledo. I was also told at the end of
the meeting they hoped I would go back to the city and state that Toledo Edison was
working with me on these issues. Although it is true they have been fixing (ina slow
fashion) the lighting outages I sent them I don’t believe that qualifies as working with
‘me. Additionally the Lakewood line shops completion ratio for work I do turn in is poor.
‘They will need to address far more issues then simple outages such as the painting of
metal poles, pole-to-pole lines, and exposed wiring.
