The Hy-Wire car is a concept vehicle without traditional mechanical components like an internal combustion engine, steering wheel, or pedals. It is powered by hydrogen fuel cells and controlled by a central computer and driver control unit called the X-Drive, which consists of two ergonomic grips and an LCD screen that can slide to either side of the vehicle. The Hy-Wire has a flat floor, large windshield, and steel passenger compartment for safety, with plenty of legroom for passengers. It is fully autonomous and was demonstrated at the 2002 North American International Auto Show.
