What is
This document evaluates the Performance Management at US
Happening inside
Shipping Corporation. By viewing how it is done and what are
the things absent in it? US Shipping
Corporation?
The Evaluation:

The Performance management system consists of all the essentials of PMS from
Strategic congruence to ethicality. However there is little confusion in ethicality
portion. “Employee belongs to US shipping corp. once (s) he enters the main
gate, and to his/her family once (s) he leaves the office”, were the words of HR
Manager Pakistan and Middle East.
There is a period round up every three months {Held at PC Karachi in Pakistan last
time}.
It’s a two day meeting of higher authorities and one day revival for lower level.
Every two months 50 high performance employees are sent to destination of
choice {from a given range of countries} for a week paid holiday. They can choose
between monetary payment and holiday (if they choose monetary reward they
cannot enjoy holiday rather they had to continue working).
At the end of every Year weak employees are sent to USA for further training of 3
weeks or as required. Green leave is in effect from 3 rd consecutive weak
performance.
The employee behavior through critical incidents is also reviewed and measured.
Improvement is a necessary component.
Special care is taken regarding components to be measured. Even the CEO and
Board of Directors are not exempt from Performance measurement following US
Jones act market.
Public owners’ review is conducted annually where the owners and the Board of
directors review performances. There the Board of Directors can be changed if
their performance is not matching the standards.
Because the performance standards are so high, every employee regardless of
position is told clearly what is required from him/her in the following period. This
is done in round up meeting.
This leaves no margin for error.
