REL ACK PRARRM QENN BWUUNGHAN CCV OlOR eclrolo4 Nieuwezijds Voorbrugwal 74a 1012SE Amsterdam The Netherlands Wednesday 30" September 2009 Dear Alison, Please find enclosed my completed application form for your GTP program. Also enclosed is my personal CV in support of some points mentioned in the application. I believe my application to be a strong one due many factors. Initially, | recognise both the shortage of male teachers in the area of primary education and the responsibility this carries. | think it’s crucial for children to have positive male role models and | look forward to fulfilling this responsibility | think my varied and extensive experience of working with the primary education age ranges also makes my application a strong one. Currently, I'm employed at the International School of ‘Amsterdam which has a justified reputation as a world leader in international education. My current position is a teaching assistant where | work alongside a homeroom teacher and assist in all areas of classroom management, lesson planning, materials preparation, lesson delivery and classroom admin. | am also responsible for small group work activities and assume responsibility for the class during teacher absence. Prior to joining the international school, | worked in South Korea as part of the Seoul Ministry of Education scheme for raising the level of English speakers. | taught as the sole English teacher for grades K-G6 in a school of 120 students. | found this a huge challenge but ultimately a thoroughly rewarding experience. The experience of learning so much about being a teacher, coupled with learning much about communication was highly rewarding (this being due to myself and the students not able to speak each other's language when the school year began). | also have experience of working with special needs children in an educational setting; having spent a summer working at a leading special needs summer camp in the United States. ‘The GTP program will, hope, be the start of a long-term career in primary education. After gaining experience of a regular job, retuning to study as a mature student for my BSc, spending a year teaching in Korea, and now fortunate enough to learn more at a leading school, | feel |am on a career path | genuinely want to be on. Teaching genuinely represents an area of enjoyment and passion to learn more and grow into the role of a teacher. | hope the GTP can be a part of this, process.
