A species is a group of interbreeding organisms that do not breed with
members of other such groups. New species may be formed after two populations of
the same species become so isolated from that genes no longer pass from one to the
other. Each than evolves under selection pressures that genes no longer pass from one
to the other. Each then evolves under selection pressures that produce adaptations
may become so different that they are considered separate species.
The species composition of an ecosystem changes in various ways with the
passage of time. The distribution of species depends on the availability of suitable
habitats and the ability of organisms to disperse to these places. Although the climate
of an area mainly determines the climax community of an area, parts of the area are
always in various stages of succession as a result of disturbance of the climax
community.
