Question Two: How effective is the

combination of your main product

and ancillary texts?
Effectiveness
● Aesthetics
● As the majority of the promo is set in the out doors, the
natural scenery; of which also correlates with the theme
of nature, produces a visually pleasing experience
throughout the promo.

Because the star is centre focus of both the camera and scenery, the audience warm to her and
she also becomes visually pleasing. Therefore we are challenging the use and gratification theory,
as we are influencing the audience's interpretation of the star by what we put behind her in the
background.
Effectiveness (continued)
● The promo represents the genre of soft rock,
because of the following:
● Running theme of nature
● Colour scheme
● Artist is always in the focal point
● Costume
● Arbitrary
Colours
The colour green represents the theme of nature, this colour
runs throughout the main product and the ancillary texts

The colour white connotes innocence – the star is wearing white

throughout the promo.

The colour red however connotes lust, seduction and danger – this
colour is only seen once; and is seen being thrown away. This
presents the idea that the artist is changing her ways, Dennis
McQuail's theory states many watch media products to seek advice
and to find reinforcement for personal values.
