Uses of Adjectives?

 describe or limit a noun


 add life and color to language
 help us to give more exact pictures of
what we are talking/writing about
 makes our speech and written works
become more interesting and more
explicit
Kinds of Adjectives
 Descriptive adjectives give color and
vividness to the persons, places, or
things we talk or write about.
 May be proper - formed from a proper noun
as in Muslim garment
 Or common – ordinary qualities of a noun as
in silk malong
 May be derived from other words through
the addition of affixes such as
indispensable companion

 Descriptive Adjectives
 Usually found before a noun but sometimes,
comes after a linking verb. E.g. The malong
is expensive.
 May be formed by putting 2 words together
as in handwoven malong

 Express degrees of quality, quantity, or
value with the exemption of the ff: square,
round, triangular, white, brown, red, prefect,
complete, excellent
 To express an equal degree of quality, quantity,
or value, use as ____ as.
 Use not so ____ as to express negative
comparison.
Kinds of Adjectives

 Limiting adjectives indicate number or


quantity.
 tell how many (five), how much (few), which
one (that one), whose (mine) etc.
 Demonstrative adjectives this, these, that,
those also limit the nouns being described.
