Function
When ignition ON a signal is transmitted by the CDI control unit
(N3/9) to the glow output stage (N14/2). If no data transfer takes
place with the CDI control unit (N3/9), the glow heating is
interrupted after 2 seconds. The glow output stage (N14/2)
constantly signals the current operating state (glow heating "ON" or
"OFF") and system faults. The following faults are detected and
transmitted to the CDI control unit (N3/9):
Open circuit of one or several glow plugs (R9)
Short circuit in glow plug circuit
Relay fault
Open circuit of glow plugs (R9)
If the CDI control unit (N3/9) detects a fault of this type, it is
stored and indicated for about 1 minute by the preglow indicator
lamp (A1e16) coming on, at the earliest as from engine running.
The fault code is being stored in the CDI control unit (N3/9).

Short circuit or glow output stage (N14/2) faulty
If the CDI control unit (N3/9) detects such a fault, it is stored and
indicated immediately by the preglow indicator lamp (A1e16)
coming on. Once the fault is no longer current, the display is
switched off immediately, but the fault is stored in the CDI control
unit (N3/9). If the fault is constantly current, the preglow indicator
lamp (A1e16) remains on until the ignition is switched off.
Fault in communication
If the CDI control unit (N3/9) detects such a fault
(e.g. open circuit in wiring), it is stored and indicated immediately
by the preglow indicator lamp (A1e16) coming on. Once the fault is
no longer current, the display is switched off immediately, but the
fault is stored in the
CDI control unit (N3/9). If the fault is constantly current, the
preglow indicator lamp (A1e16) remains on until the ignition is
switched off.
