Title: Gastro-intestinal parasitism in gaddi sheep and goats in Kangra valley, Himachal

Abstract: A field survey was conducted to study the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasitism
in gaddi sheep and goats in Kangra valley, (Himachal Pradesh). 99.3% of animals showed
infections with strongylate worms followed by Fasciola sp. (13.33%), Amphistons (4%),
Dicrocoelium sp. (12.22%), Eimeria sp. (26.66), Trichuris sp.(18%), Dictyocaulus sp.
(0.44%), Schistosoma sp. (1.55%), and Monieza sp. (2%). A rise in strongylate egg counts
were observed during the month of March to September reachingand acqusition of infection
by lambs and kids in the following months. Fasciola sp. and Dicrocoelium sp., two common
liverflukes and coccidiosis may be responsible for heavy morbidity among sheep and goat in
the valley.
