The Pumps with Nine Lives

CO2 Applications

It is necessary to keep the CO2 in a liquid state, especially as it experiences the pressure drop
through the inlet valve. The following guidelines help towards this objective, however, care must
still be taken to keep the inlet piping pressure loss
to a minimum.

Temperature F/ C

Inlet Pressure and Temperature must be in the Liquid range indicated on the
above CO2 Vapor Pressure Chart to keep CO2 as a liquid.

• Less than 300 RPM is recommended to help maintain liquid state and
prevent cavitation.
• High-density or Hydrogenated o-rings are required to prevent explosive
decompression. 90 Durometer Nitrile are generally the most economical
and readily available alternative.
• Teflon or Teflon-blend Seals/V-Packings are also recommended.
• Block-Style K-version and Cast C-version Pumps both feature the specially
ported inlet manifold that protect the Lo-Pressure Seal from the slightly
higher inlet pressures required for liquid CO2 [max 300 PSI].
• Temperatures below –10 F not recommended with CAT PUMPS.
