What we’re Learning This Week...  February 28th

ISAT testing begins

Language Arts: This week in reading we will be focusing on reading strategies for
nonfiction texts. This includes understanding and identifying text features, reading
maps, and graphs as well as following directions in nonfiction
passages. We will also be doing a timed extended response
writing this week. This will get students used to completing a
given reading passage and response in a given time period. We
will be doing a lot of vocabulary study in class and for home-
work. Students will practice using context clues to figure out
words that they don’t know and use their knowledge of pre-
fixes and suffixes to understand the meaning of new words.
In writing this week we will continue working on our persuasive
writing unit this week.
Math: This week in math we will be reviewing fraction concepts and learning how to find equivalent fractions.
We will also be learning how to find elapsed time this week.
Science/Social Studies: In science we will be reviewing concepts that students will need to know for the
ISAT science test. We will also be learning about temperature and reading a thermometer this week.
