Sri Rama Raksha Stotram

Introduction:

One must first read the mantra with

translation in English. This helps one
understand the meaning and helps
concentration. The power comes from
realizing the multifarious auspicious activities
of Sri Rama during His incarnation, in the
form of various roles and names. This
realization would facilitate one’s protection
by Sri Rama. It is therefore similar to other
manthras like Sri Rama Kavacham etc. To
help the Saadhaka (one who wishes to succeed
by practice), included are 1) stanza-wise
translation, 2) complete text, 3) translation.
Reading any or all of these three parts will be
fruitful.

This is an ancient manthra with the power of the

powerful syllables called “Bijaaksharaas. When
uttered, they create a certain vibration which enhances
physical and spiritual health, builds confidence,
improves memory, and gives many other good results.
Combined with devotion, it is spiritually uplifting and
brings one closer to the Divine power. The results
depend upon the degree of meticulousness and
devotion. Thus one must cultivate the habit of reciting
4

the manthra. As time progresses, it becomes easy to

concentrate. One must know that devotion and faith
are two most important factors to reap the full benefits
of this manthra.

How to get most out of this manthra:

Best time to begin the recitation is either in the waxing

Moon phase (shukla paksha) of the month of
Aaswiyuja (October) or in the spring season (Vasantha
ritu), on an auspicious day (like panchami, dashimi,
ekaadasi, or dwaadasi) at an auspicious time (early in
the morning, before Sunrise, called Brahma
muhurtham). After completing the ablutions and
bathing, one must wear clean clothes and sit down
comfortably. Darbhaasana or kusaasana is
recommended but not necessary. Having a picture of
Sri Rama in front helps concentration. One must relax
and forget about all other worldly affairs, do
praanayaama and then bear Sri Rama Chandra’s
image in mind. Having a small lamp illuminating the
picture helps. With belief, devotion and
meticulousness, one must repeat this manthra 11 or 7
times daily. It is said that if one recites this daily,
sitting near a sick person, it is supposed to cure the
disease. There are several other benefits devotees
obtain.

petals, with pleasing glances. On His left lap is seated Sri
Sita with beautiful face like a lotus flower and graceful
eyes like lotus petals. She is as delicate as the lotus flower,
jubilantly decorated. Thick copious black braids adore His
head.
