PEER REVIEW QUESTIONS

Questions to help you help others with their writing!

You don't need to tuse these questions in any particular order. Familiarize yourself with the
questions and then, if you'd like, feel free to add your own.

1. Organization (NARRATIVE): Does the first paragraph serve as a good introduction to the rest
of the paper or writing?

2. Introduction (EXPOSITORY/PERSUASIVE): Can you identify a thesis statement?

3. Organization (NARRATIVE): Is the paper organized with a recognizable beginning, middle and
end.

4. Organization ( EXPOSITORY/PERSUASIVE): Is the paper organized with a thesis statement,


supporting details and a conclusion?

5. Sentence Fluency: Are there any sentences whose meaning is unclear? Is there any part of
this paper that is difficult to follow?

6. Conventions: Did you find distracting grammar, punctuation, spelling or word usage problems?

7. Ideas: Do the ideas presented make sense? Are there any parts that seem out of place?

8. What is the greatest strength of this piece of writing?

9. What is the greatest weakness of this piece of writing?

10. Word Choice: Are there any words that are flat, overused, or meaningless? Are there any rich
vocabulary words that add to the overall effect of the paper?

11. Is the title appealing?

12. Is the lead (first sentence or two) effective?

13. Organization: Are there any sentences or paragraphs that should be moved from one part of
the paper to another? Are there any paragraphs can could be removed?

14. Word Choice: Are there active verbs (things are happening) in this piece?

15. Word Choice and Sentence Fluency/Ideas:Select the best phrase in the writing and underline
it.

16. Organization: Does the paper end with a whimper or a shout? Is the ending just a repeat of
some other part of the paper?

17. Is the paper easy to read or difficult?

18. Where should the writer have provided more information?

19. Can you tell who the audience is for the paper?

20. Organization: Are there any paragraphing errors?

21. Sentence Fluency: Are there any run-on sentences or sentence fragments?
