Executive Summary:
The automated tracking poll conducted February 18-20 with 819 likely voters shows Rose Ferlita holding an
impressive two-point lead in the race for mayor on Tuesday, March 1. Consider the following:
• In a direct ballot-test match up among likely voters, Ferlita leads with 24% of the vote followed by Bob
Buckhorn at 22%, with Dick Greco and Ed Turanchik each at 19%, followed by Thomas Scott at 5% (9%
are undecided). Moreover, among the sub sample of respondents who rank their chances of voting as
“excellent,” Ferlita continues to hold a two point lead, at 25%, with Greco even farther behind at 19%.
These “excellent” votes are usually the most reliable indicator of a candidate’s base of support.
• Furthermore, when undecided voters who are leaning towards a candidate are included, Ferlita’s lead
over the GOP field of candidates increases further to 26%, 3 points ahead of the second place
candidate and 6 points ahead of Greco (at 20%).
Methodology:
This survey was commissioned by Rose Ferlita for Mayor and conducted February 18-20, 2011 by Voter Survey Service.
Calls were automated, and voters were contacted using a pre-recorded set of questions instructing voters to complete
the survey by pressing their telephone key pads to score their answers. The universe for the poll includes Tampa voters
with a history of voting in municipal elections. A vote intensity screen was also used to gauge interest in the upcoming
election. The margin of error for a sample size of 819 interviews is +/-3.42% at the 95% confidence level.
