buried piping (CBP) is defined as underground piping carrying natural gas that is not owned and maintained by
Virginia Natural Gas. Most frequently, CBP is located beyond the gas meter and serves appliances in and around
a customer's home or business.

In compliance with federal law and to help ensure your safety, this letter is to inforrn you that property owners
are responsible for maintaining all natural gas facilities located beyond their gas meters, including buried piping.
If buried piping is not maintained, it may be subject to the potential hazards of corrosion and leakage. proper
maintenance of piping includes periodic inspection and repair (if needed) by a qualified plumber, heating
contractor or other specialist.
