Complete directions for a sofa- and double-comforter-


sized Snowflake quilt appear in the November/December
2003 (#94) issue of Quiltmaker magazine. These two
additional snowflake template patterns are provided free
for our readers!
The blocks look complex, but are easy to sew. Correct
piecing order and proper pressing are key to creating
great-looking blocks. In the block diagrams shown, we’ve
used both of the foundation patterns given here and on
the next page.
For each hexagonal block, foundation-piece 12 triangle
sections from the patterns provided. Join them to
make 6 diamonds; press the seam allowances open. Block Diagram
Next, add two solid (non-pieced) triangle patches
on either side of one diamond to create equilateral
triangles. Press these seam allowances away
from the foundations. Join 3 triangles to
make a half block. Press seam allowances
open. Repeat for other half. Join the
halves and press seam allowances open. 1
