DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

MC303 - COMPUTER NETWORKS

THIRD SEMESTER 2009-10

INNOVATIVE-I

DESIGNING OF NETWORKS - SUBNETTING

1. You have been given a Class-C network address 205.29.64.0. You must divide your
network into segments that will contain no more than 20 hosts each. What subnet mask
should you use to accomplish this goal? What is the maximum number of subnets you
can have? What is the number of hosts on each subnet?

2. You have been given with Class-B network you divide it into subnets each capable of
connecting 256 device. What is the subnet mask and the maximum number of subnets
you can have?

3. You have been given with Class-C type of network address 200.20.10.0 divide this into 8
subnets. What is the proper mask and number of hosts in each subnet? Find the first
address, first host address, last address and last host address and net address for each
subnet.

4. We have been allocated an IP Address 130.16.0.0 for networking. We wish to subnet this
into 13 subnets and allow for expansion in near future. Device an IP subnet plan giving
the network address, first host address, last host address, broadcast address for each
subnet and also specify the subnet mask.

5. Suppose an organization is given the block 17.12.14.0/26 which contains 64 bit

addresses. The organization has 3 offices and needs to divide the addresses into 3 sub-
blocks of 32, 16, 1, 6 addresses. Find the new mask for each sub net, first address, last
address of each subnet.
6. An organization is granted the block 211.17.180.0/24. The administrator wants to create
32 subnets.

a. Find the subnet mask

b. Find the number of addresses in each subnet

c. Find the first and last address in first 5 subnets and in subnet 32.
